Job Summary (Overall Purpose of the Position)
The Rates and Data Analyst provide analytical and reporting support for rate development and implementation as well as supporting analytics needed across customer service operations. This position performs entry to intermediate-level data analysis, supports rate and tariff work, and develops dashboards and reports. The Analyst works with moderate independence and is responsible for transforming raw data into actionable insights, maintaining recurring reports, and contributing to data-driven decision-making. This role supports enterprise analytics efforts by developing meaningful visualizations, ensuring data quality, and assisting in process improvements that strengthen Midwest Energy's analytics capabilities. At times, the Rates and Data Analyst acts as the customer-facing expert on rates for Midwest Energy.
Job Duties - Responsibilities ๏ฟฝ Tasks
Rates and Tariff
  1. Assist the Rates and Tariff Manager with data collection and analysis.
  2. Research and resolve issues and questions involving rates and tariffs. Make changes to tariff documents as issues are identified.
  3. Support load forecasting, revenue forecasting, and rate design analyses.
  4. Analyze customer usage patterns, load profiles, customer classes, and seasonal trends using billing and AMI data.
  5. Examine and track external factors affecting energy and gas sales volumes, including weather and economic factors.
  6. Prepare rate comparison analyses and assist Customer Service Representatives with complex billing issues.
  7. Manage the renewable generation interconnection program, guiding customers and vendors through the process, and coordinating with the engineering department for final approval.

Utility Data Analytics
  1. Develop and maintain Excel reports and (ultimately) Power BI dashboards that support Customer Service research.
  2. Perform data cleaning, quality checks, and validation to ensure accuracy of analytics outputs.
  3. Conduct usage trend analysis, load pattern studies, and customer segmentation work under guidance from Rates & Tariff Manager.
  4. Document data workflows, reporting processes, and standard operating procedures.
  5. Assist in enhancing enterprise reporting structures, data governance practices, and routine analytics processes.
  6. Provide ad-hoc insights and data summaries for management, rate design, outage analysis, and customer programs.

  1. Participate in special projects that involve data analysis, reporting improvements, or new analytics initiatives.
  2. Build effective working relationships with internal departments to understand data needs and deliver timely information.
  3. Promote safe working habits and follow all safety rules and regulations of Midwest Energy.
  4. Maintain awareness of changes in local, state, and federal rules that may impact Midwest Energy.
  5. Build internal and external relationships to enhance data-sharing, communication, and effective customer service.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree in analytics, economics, business, accounting, engineering, information systems, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  2. 1๏ฟฝ3 years of experience summarizing data into reports or building simple reports, or a related role preferred. Experience directly in data analytics or business intelligence preferred.
  3. Beginning proficiency with Excel, including summary statistics, formulas, lookups, and data transformation, required.
  4. Ability and wiliness to learn tools such as Power BI and SQL required.
  5. Utility industry experience helpful but not required.
  6. Solid understanding of basic statistics, data validation, and quality control, required.
