Position Purpose:  The Data and Reporting Analyst will be responsible for creating, analyzing, and managing data reports and dashboards to support FPS's data-driven initiatives. This role will ensure that stakeholders across the district have accurate and timely insights for decision-making, using data visualization and analytical techniques to turn complex data into actionable information.
Responsibilities

1. Data Analysis & Reporting   Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 40%  

Examples of this work include:

• Design, build, and maintain reports and dashboards using tools such as Power BI or similar platforms.
• Develop SQL queries to extract data from multiple systems, including the District's Student Information System (SIS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and other district data sources, and transform it into meaningful reports.

• Generate both standardized and ad-hoc reports as requested by district administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders.

  2. Data Visualization  Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 25%  

Examples of this work include:

• Create data visualizations that make complex data accessible and easily understandable, tailored to the needs of non-technical users.
• Build interactive dashboards that allow users to explore data dynamically, such as monitoring key metrics for student performance, attendance, enrollment, and budget tracking.
• Continuously improve visualization techniques to enhance data presentation and interpretation.

  3. Data Quality Assurance  Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 20%  

Examples of this work include:

• Perform regular data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness in reports.
• Identify data discrepancies and collaborate with relevant staff or departments to resolve inconsistencies.

• Document and standardize data definitions to maintain clarity and consistency across reports.

  4.  Collaboration & Support  Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 10%  

Examples of this work include:

• Work closely with the IT department, district administrators, and instructional staff to understand their data needs and develop relevant insights.
• Provide training and support to end-users on report functionality and best practices in data interpretation.
• Maintain and support legacy reports, historical datasets, and established reporting workflows to ensure continuity and data integrity across system transitions.
• Act as a liaison with various departments to facilitate data literacy and encourage data-informed decision-making across the district.

 

 
 

5.  Compliance & Security  Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 5%

Examples of this work include:

• Adhere to data privacy laws (e.g., FERPA) and district policies to protect student information and sensitive data.
• Ensure that data sharing and reporting practices comply with district, state, and federal regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: A background in data analytics, information systems, or a related field is required. While a formal degree is not mandatory, relevant professional experience, technical training, or industry certifications will be considered in place of traditional education.
• Experience: At least 4 years of experience in data reporting, analytics, or a similar role.
• Ability: Must be able to analyze complex datasets and translate them into clear, actionable insights that support decision-making. Must be capable of designing and maintaining interactive dashboards, performing data validation and quality control, and training staff on how to effectively interpret and utilize reports. Additionally, you must be able to collaborate across departments to assess and support district-wide data needs.
• Knowledge: A strong understanding of SQL and best practices for data querying and reporting along with knowledge of data analysis techniques for organizing, validating, and interpreting large datasets. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
• Experience: Working with K-12 data systems, student information systems, or public sector reporting environments.  Experience developing dashboards and reports using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools is highly desirable.
• Ability: To develop and implement advanced data models, including predictive analytics, to support district goals. Experience automating reporting processes, optimizing data workflows, and leveraging data visualization techniques is beneficial.
• Knowledge:  Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Power BI and best practices for data visualization.  Understanding of advanced analytics concepts and methods for presenting data to support organizational decision-making.

This position reports to:  Director of Information Technology
The Data and Reporting Analyst works closely with district administrators, instructional staff, and IT team members to identify data needs and deliver meaningful insights. The role requires frequent collaboration with various departments to ensure that data is accessible, accurate, and effectively used for decision-making. Because this position works with confidential student and staff information, a strong commitment to privacy and compliance with data protection regulations is essential.
Problem Solving
This position requires the ability to analyze complex datasets and resolve data inconsistencies that may affect reporting accuracy. The Analyst must evaluate competing data requests, prioritize tasks, and troubleshoot issues that arise from multiple systems. Errors in analysis or reporting can lead to misinformed decisions at the district level, making precision and attention to detail critical to success.
Freedom to Act

The Data and Reporting Analyst operates under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology but is expected to work independently in designing, producing, and validating reports and dashboards. The role exercises discretion in managing priorities and solving technical reporting issues while escalating matters related to policy, funding, or district-wide strategy to higher authority. Initiative, accountability, and the ability to manage multiple projects are key aspects of this position.

Physical Requirements
Work in this position is primarily sedentary, involving frequent sitting, computer use, and communication with others. Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting of items up to 50 pounds may be required when handling equipment or files. The position requires frequent use of hands for typing and data entry, as well as regular verbal and auditory communication.

The work environment is typically quiet and performed indoors in an office or technology setting. The position may occasionally require visits to district buildings to support data-related initiatives or training.
