Job description

SUMMARY
The Soccer Data Analyst is responsible for applying advanced statistical methods, programming, and data science techniques to analyze soccer event, tracking, physical, and performance data. This role develops analytical models, visualizations, and decision-support tools that provide actionable insights to coaching, scouting, player recruitment, and front office staff. Working collaboratively across the organization, the Soccer Data Analyst contributes to research initiatives, enhances analytical processes, and supports strategic decision-making to create a competitive advantage.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Analyze soccer event, tracking, physical, and performance data to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights that support match preparation, opponent analysis, player development, and post-match performance reviews.
  2. Design, develop, validate, and continuously improve diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytical models that inform coaching strategies, player evaluation, scouting, and organizational decision-making.
  3. Develop interactive dashboards, visualizations, and analytical reports that support player recruitment, scouting, roster construction, and strategic planning.
  4. Collaborate with the Analytics Department and cross-functional stakeholders to design, execute, and evaluate research initiatives utilizing event, tracking, and performance datasets.
  5. Develop, maintain, document, and optimize analytical code, data pipelines, and data science products using Python, R, SQL, and other applicable technologies while adhering to established coding and documentation standards.
  6. Manage, validate, cleanse, and optimize data sources while supporting data governance, storage architecture, and data quality initiatives.
  7. Present analytical findings and data-driven recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex analyses into actionable business and soccer insights.
  8. Special projects and assignments as business dictates.
  9. Responsible for the maintenance, creation and control of all personally identifiable information or any other information protected by any Confidentiality or Privacy Standards or Company Policies that you have access or knowledge of, including but not limited to any state or federal regulations including HIPAA.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or quantitative discipline required.
  • Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Analytics, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in data analytics, data science, sports analytics, or a related analytical field; equivalent graduate research experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical analysis, predictive modeling, machine learning, and data science methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and Excel required.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases preferred.
  • Experience with R, Tableau, Power BI, Git, or other version control systems preferred.
  • Experience integrating, validating, and managing data from multiple sources, APIs, and large datasets.
  • Experience working with soccer event and tracking data platforms (e.g., Opta, StatsBomb, SkillCorner, Tracab, Catapult, or similar) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization best practices and the ability to develop dashboards and reports for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to independently solve complex technical and business challenges.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex analytical findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-functional, team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.

Knowledge of soccer and a passion for applying analytics to player performance, tactical analysis, player recruitment, and organizational decision-making preferred.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required by match and organizational schedules.
