What does a Data Analyst do?

A Data Analyst is responsible for collecting, processing, and performing statistical analyses on large datasets to help organizations make informed decisions. They use tools such as Excel, SQL, and data visualization software to interpret data trends and present actionable insights to stakeholders. Their work is crucial in guiding business strategies, improving processes, and solving complex problems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in statistics, and a background in mathematics or a related field, often supported by a bachelor’s degree. Familiarity with tools such as SQL, Excel, Python or R, and data visualization platforms like Tableau or Power BI is typically required. Data Analysts frequently work alongside teams from marketing, finance, product, and operations to understand their data needs and deliver actionable insights. Will AI replace a data analyst?

AI tools can automate routine data processing and basic analysis tasks, but data analysts are essential for interpreting complex data, making strategic decisions, and providing context.
