Location: Alexandria, VA (Hybrid - requires 2 days on-site; option to work in person or remote the other 3 days per week)

Department: Asset Management

Reports To: Vice President of Asset Management


Internship Period: 

Internship will begin June 8 and end by mid-August. Internship period is 8 to 10 weeks. 

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, approximately 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Deadline to apply is May 18, 2026.

Position Summary

Wesley Housing is seeking a motivated Summer Intern to support its Asset Management (AM) team through a blend of financial analysis, portfolio monitoring, and data/dashboard development. This role offers hands-on experience working with real estate performance data, financial reporting, and business intelligence tools, while contributing to improved decision-making across a portfolio of affordable housing communities. Eligible interns must be undergraduate students enrolled in a Virginia college or university.

What You'll Do

  • Review the current Excel Asset Management Dashboard and identify opportunities to improve usability, consistency, and reporting value. 
  • Assist in updating dashboard formulas, layouts, and reporting formats to make information more accurate, accessible, and actionable. 
  • Collaborate with the Sr. Database Administrator and Asset Management staff to evaluate how tools such as Power BI and/or Tableau could enhance current dashboard reporting. 
  • Support the development of sample visualizations, report prototypes, or data models for future dashboard improvements.
  • Conduct market research and benchmarking analysis 
  • Assist in updating dashboard formulas, layouts, and reporting formats to make information more accurate, accessible, and actionable. 
  • Develop or enhance data visualizations, reporting tools, dashboard prototypes and recommended processes to support long-term maintenance and consistency. 
  • Present recommendations and a final summer project summary to leadership at the end of the internship. 
  • Assist the Asset Management team with related summer projects and initiatives as needed.

Requirements

Required

  • Undergraduate student enrolled in a Virginia college or university
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management abilities 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines 
  • Must be able to work on-site in the Alexandria, VA office at least two days per week 

Preferred

  • Students with at least 30 completed credits preferred 
  • Strong interest in real estate, affordable housing, finance, data analytics, business, or related field 
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with Power BI or Tableau is a plus 
  • Interest in nonprofit or mission-driven work preferred
