Test Engineer
Vehicle Integration & Data Acquisition
Auburn Hills, MI

We are hiring a Test Engineer - Vehicle Integration & Data Acquisition to support the testing, integration, and validation of advanced DoD ground vehicle systems. This role focuses on test instrumentation, data acquisition (DAQ), vehicle testing, systems integration, DEWESoft, MATLAB, LabVIEW, CANalyzer/CANoe, and military vehicle development, ensuring internal and government testing is performed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage the specification, selection, procurement, calibration, maintenance, and retirement of test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Develop instrumentation plans and data acquisition strategies to support engineering and customer testing requirements.
  • Procure, install, configure, validate, and troubleshoot test instrumentation including data loggers, accelerometers, strain gauges, thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, and video systems.
  • Support data acquisition setup, execution, monitoring, and collection during laboratory and field testing.
  • Reduce, analyze, validate, and document test data to support engineering analysis and product development.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define data collection requirements and improve test methodologies.
  • Lead and support component, subsystem, and full vehicle integration and validation testing.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including:
    • Test Plans
    • Test Procedures
    • Test Reports
    • Test Logs
    • Test Incident Reports
    • Failure Analyses
    • Corrective Action Reports
  • Install, configure, and monitor instrumentation during vehicle testing activities.
  • Support field testing operations including test site coordination, instrumentation setup, and customer interface.
  • Coordinate shipment of vehicles, components, instrumentation, and equipment between company facilities, government sites, suppliers, and test locations.
  • Diagnose and repair instrumentation wiring, electrical systems, and test equipment as needed.
  • Mentor and train junior test engineers on instrumentation, data acquisition, and data reduction best practices.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety, security, environmental, and quality policies.
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and government customers to support successful program execution.
  • Support additional testing and engineering activities as assigned by the Vehicle Test Manager.

Qualifications:
  • US Citizenship Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting test instrumentation and data acquisition, preferably for DoD ground vehicle programs.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and collecting data from:
    • Data Loggers
    • Accelerometers
    • Strain Gauges
    • Thermocouples
    • Pressure Transducers
    • Flow Meters
    • Video Systems
    • Other electronic test instrumentation
  • Experience operating and maintaining laboratory test environments, including calibration and instrumentation management.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical systems, instrumentation wiring, and vehicle electrical components.
  • Proficiency with:
    • DEWESoft
    • MATLAB
    • LabVIEW
    • CANalyzer
    • CANoe
  • Experience interfacing with instrumentation suppliers and calibration providers.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent vehicle or test articles.
  • Strong hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and laboratory experience with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience reducing and formatting test data for engineering analysis.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Department of Defense vehicle development and procurement processes.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Military Standards and applicable testing regulations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Microsoft Project is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering principles, including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), preferred.
  • Experience developing scripts or automation using Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, including occasional international travel to Europe.
  • Must successfully complete background screening, employment verification, reference checks, physical examination, and controlled substance testing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred).
  • Additional experience supporting military ground combat vehicle development and validation programs.
  • Advanced experience with automated data acquisition, scripting, and test process improvements.
  • Experience supporting government developmental and operational test events.
