Systems Lead
Location: NSWC-Crane, IN*
Position Type: Full-Time
Travel Requirements: Up to 10%
Position Summary
Created Solutions is seeking a Systems Lead to provide technical leadership across complex, multidisciplinary defense and aerospace programs. In this role, you will be responsible for guiding system architecture, requirements development, integration, and verification efforts to ensure mission success from concept through deployment.
The Systems Lead serves as the connective tissue between engineering disciplines-mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing-ensuring that system-level decisions are technically sound, traceable, and executable. The ideal candidate brings strong systems thinking, disciplined engineering judgment, and the ability to lead teams through ambiguity with clarity and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead system architecture development, requirements definition, and technical trade studies for defense and aerospace systems.
  • Serve as the technical authority ensuring alignment between customer requirements and engineering execution.
  • Coordinate and guide cross-functional engineering teams to achieve cohesive, integrated system solutions.
  • Manage system interfaces, requirements traceability, and configuration control across the product lifecycle.
  • Oversee system integration, verification, and validation (IV&V) activities.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks at the system level.
  • Support program execution by balancing technical performance, cost, and schedule constraints.
  • Provide systems engineering expertise in proposal development, technical reviews, and customer engagements.
  • Mentor engineers and help establish best practices for systems engineering rigor and discipline.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain at least Collateral Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related field required; Master's preferred).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering or technical leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading system architecture, requirements development, and integration efforts.
  • Strong understanding of the full system lifecycle-from concept and requirements through verification and sustainment.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering tools and methodologies (requirements management, trade studies, interface control, risk management).
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief technical content to customers and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting DoD or aerospace programs, including work with agencies such as DARPA, NASA, Army, Navy, Air Force, MDA, FFRDC's, UARC's, and National Labs.
  • Experience with flight systems, hypersonics, avionics, or complex weapon or space systems.
  • Familiarity with MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering) tools and approaches (e.g., SysML).
  • Experience leading technical efforts on government proposals or capture teams.
  • Prior experience serving as a technical lead, chief engineer, or systems integration lead.
