Job description

Position Summary (2-3 sentences):
Under the direction of the COO, the Dance Director is responsible for the coordination and operation of the Y's Dance programs. The director's responsibilities include but are not limited to all program development and administration in the Dance Center in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Westport Weston Family Y.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth dance program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
Workweek includes 10-15 hours minimum per week teaching of skills classes.
Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
Develops budget related to the position. Ensures programs operate within budget, enrollment is satisfactory, member satisfaction met, revenue and expenses are in line with expectations and that program fees are collected.
Develop and administer new revenue producing programs, incorporate and develop one new family event per year connected to the dance studio for the Dance Center.
Attend at least two training workshops or conferences per year.
Monitors and purchases necessary dance equipment.
Organizes and conducts all training and meetings for staff.
Develop income producing strong successful Dance Company and Competition Dance Team.
Schedules practices, performances, and competitions. Develop rules and guidelines for Company members.
Holds parents meeting for all Company and Competition parents once a season.
Purchases and distributes Company costumes and awards; coordinates and distributes
team photographs.
Organizes and hosts season parties and student and family events.
Organizes and conducts dance workshops.
Responsible for publicity and developing strong social media presence for all Dance programs. Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth dance program information,
Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation

Qualifications (Include education, years' experience and technical requirements if needed)
Associates Degree, BS/BA in early childhood, dance education or related field or equivalent work experience.
Proven record of competitive dance instruction.
Minimum of 5 years teaching a variety of dance classes.
Three or more years of general management experience in youth and adult programing.
Basic computer skills are essential. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Excel
CPR, AED, First Aid (within 45 days of hire).
