The Role
The Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Dance Coach to lead our competitive Dance program and oversee the annual recreational Dance recital. This role serves as the primary leader for competitive Dance programming, ensuring a positive, developmentally appropriate, and high-performing environment for athletes, coaches, and members.
Partnering closely with the Gymnastics & Dance Manager, the Head Dance Coach develops program strategy, supports athlete progression, manages staff, oversees performances and competitions, and ensures operational excellence across all Dance activities. This highly visible leader combines artistic vision, coaching expertise, operational management, and exceptional member service to create meaningful experiences for dancers and families while advancing the Club's Athletic & Wellness goals.
What You'll Do
ย 
Lead Competitive Dance Programming
  • Develop, implement, and execute the competitive Dance program's annual action plan in alignment with Athletic & Wellness Department goals.
  • Establish long-range strategies that support athlete development, program growth, and competitive success.
  • Organize and oversee auditions, rehearsals, performances, workshops, competitions, and related programming.
  • Support athlete progression through evaluations, development planning, and participation opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Gymnastics & Dance Manager to enhance recreational Dance programming and create development pathways for participants.
Lead and Develop Coaching Staff
  • Supervise dance choreographers, assistant coaches, and competitive Dance instructors.
  • Manage staff scheduling, training, daily work assignments, performance management, and corrective action as needed.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Partner with Human Resources and the Gymnastics & Dance Manager to address employee concerns and support a positive team culture.
Direct Performances and Special Events
  • Serve as event director for MAC-hosted Dance performances and special events, including the annual recreational Dance recital.
  • Coordinate performance logistics, production planning, schedules, resources, and event execution.
  • Build relationships with competition organizations, vendors, and external partners to support successful program outcomes.
Support Operational Excellence
  • Oversee Dance studio operations to ensure facilities meet safety, cleanliness, and presentation standards.
  • Coordinate maintenance, housekeeping, technology, and facility improvement needs with internal departments.
  • Ensure Dance equipment, studio resources, and performance materials are maintained, repaired, or replaced as necessary.
  • Promote and enforce Club policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Manage Budget and Program Resources
  • Develop, monitor, and achieve annual operating budget goals in partnership with the Gymnastics & Dance Manager.
  • Support forecasting, planning, and responsible allocation of program resources.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen participation, program growth, and operational efficiency.
Deliver Exceptional Member Experiences
  • Build strong relationships with dancers, parents, members, and staff.
  • Respond professionally and effectively to questions, concerns, and feedback.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Dance Committee.
  • Uphold and promote MAC's mission, values, and Code of Conduct while providing exceptional member service.
What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts, Dance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Significant Dance experience spanning youth, competitive, collegiate, professional, and/or performance environments.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working in a service-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, coaching, and team development experience.
  • Experience managing programs, schedules, budgets, and operational priorities.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with athletes, parents, members, and staff.
  • Current CPR/AED, First Aid, and SafeSport certifications, or the ability to obtain them within three (3) months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Competitive Dance coaching experience.
  • Experience directing performances, recitals, competitions, or large-scale events.
  • Experience working within a private club, youth athletics, performing arts, or recreational environment.
  • Experience collaborating with committees, boards, or volunteer leadership groups.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, competitions, performances, and other non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing stairs, and demonstrating Dance movements.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work in active, fast-paced environments with varying noise levels and extended periods on your feet.
  • Ability to safely operate Dance, studio, and performance-related equipment.
