Position Type: Part-Time
Position Overview
The Howard University Showtime Band is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and experienced individual to serve as Teaching Assistant - Dance Coach for the renowned Ooh La La! Dance-line. This role combines instructional leadership and mentorship, supporting the continued excellence, precision, and legacy of one of the most recognizable HBCU dance-lines.
The selected candidate will lead rehearsals, develop choreography, and provide technical training in a high-energy, performance-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and lead regular rehearsals for the Ooh La La! Dance Team
  • Teach and reinforce dance technique in ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, and HBCU dance line styles
  • Choreograph and clean routines for football games, pep rallies, and university events
  • Prepare dancers for events and performances both on and off campus
  • Accompany the team to home and away football games during the season
  • Support the artistic vision and direction of the Showtime Band program
  • Foster discipline, teamwork, and performance excellence among team members
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for student dancers

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience teaching and coaching dance
  • Strong technical background in ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, and HBCU danceline technique
  • Experience choreographing for group performances
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage rehearsals and maintain high standards
  • Availability for rehearsals, performances, and required travel

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with HBCU bands or collegiate dancelines
  • Background in performance training and show preparation
  • Experience working with student organizations or university programs

Work Schedule & Commitment
  • Part-time position
  • Evening and weekend rehearsals required
  • Travel required during football season
