Job description

This position supports the mission and work of the Y by delivering safe, welcoming, beginner-level dance instruction for children and/or adults. Prepares and leads classes using age-appropriate technique, music, and terminology; maintains a positive learning environment; and upholds YMCA policies, safety standards, and program quality.

Essential Functions:

  • Model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with participants and families.
  • Plan and deliver beginner-level lessons that keep dancers engaged and progressing; adapt methods for varied ages and abilities.
  • Select appropriate music and set up studio spaces; complete opening/closing tasks and maintain attendance and class records.
  • Provide clear demonstrations, corrections, and terminology; monitor readiness and set achievable goals.
  • Communicate professionally with parents/guardians about schedules, expectations, progress, and events.
  • Assist with workshops, clinics, rehearsals, shows, and outreach events as assigned.
  • Follow YMCA policies, emergency procedures, and mandated reporting/abuse-prevention protocols.
