Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) Audit Unit is responsible for helping ensure the accurate allocation and appropriate use of state education funding. To support this mission, the Audit Unit conducts Average Daily Membership (ADM) and compliance audits of school districts and charter holders, while also providing guidance, training, and technical expertise to educational entities and ADE program areas.
ADM and compliance audits evaluate factors that affect student membership reporting and state funding calculations. These audits assess instructional hours, student attendance, enrollment and withdrawal records, and other reporting requirements to verify the accuracy of data submitted to ADE. Audits also determine whether students reported for ADM funding were eligible under applicable statutes, regulations, and ADE requirements.
The Arizona Department of Education currently utilizes a hybrid work environment, with up to two days of remote work (contingent upon business needs). Candidates should apply with an ability and willingness to work in-office up to five days per week as business needs necessitate.

Job Duties:

Under the supervision of an Audit Supervisor, accurately performs audit work, ranging from routine to highly complex for Average Daily Membership and other audits according to audit standards using appropriate audit and analytic techniques and ensures that all work is documented in the audit working papers
Identifies and communicates audit work, conclusions and audit findings to the assigned Audit Supervisor and Chief Auditor through team meetings
Drafts audit reports as directed by the assigned Audit Supervisor according to Audit Unit writing guidelines and appropriately prepares these reports for the Quality Control process
Assists the Audit Supervisor in administering and continuously improving the ADE Average Daily Membership (ADM) audit program by developing and delivering auditor training, maintaining audit methodology and procedures, updating audit guidance to reflect changes in Arizona statutes, ADE policies, and audit requirements, and promoting compliance with Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in:
Principles, practices, concepts, methods, and techniques of auditing
Analysis and presentation of data and conclusions
Applicants must have progressive auditing experience or progressive experience in data analysis of K-12 student records or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Skills in:
Quantitative and qualitative research
Writing
Interpersonal skills
Intermediate skill in using Microsoft Word
Advanced skill in using Microsoft Excel
Basic skill in using Microsoft Outlook
Ability to:
Conduct data analysis
Identify and analyze organizational processes and identify potential solutions
