Job description

Job Title: CNC Supervisor/Programmer 

Reports To: Plant Manager

SUMMARY:   

A non-union, supervisory position that requires responsibility for monitoring department staff production on designated shifts, and the operation of the CNC Lathe and CNC Mill production. This responsibility includes but is not limited to programming, production, quality control gauging, teardown and set-up, maintenance associated with the equipment. The position also includes supervision of saws to prepare raw materials for machining. Must have the technical ability, be able to utilize critical thinking, and be decisive in decision making in order to solve practical problems, as well as deal with a variety of concentric variable in situations where only standardization exists. The ability to formulate an assortment of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (will include, but are not limited to): 

 Supervise product manufacturing within the department. 

 Training & daily monitoring of department employees and production of shift. 

 Arrange and assigns daily, periodic, and preventative maintenance of CNC equipment. 

 Set-up and tear down of machines to support production. 

 Collection and assessment for completion of daily departmental production data. 

 Follow up and shift reporting for any prior and upcoming shifts. 

 Interpret work instructions and processes as provided by ISO and Quality Management System. 

 Record all necessary data pertaining to supervisory duties to include advanced training, disciplinary actions, and recommendations of pay increases. 

 Work under the direct supervision of the Plant Manager, and follow directions with accuracy when working independently.  Inventory control of production parts and consumable tooling. 

 Arriving to work on time for every scheduled shift. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: 

Gauging & Metrology

o Proficient use of production gauges, including (as applicable): calipers (to 0.001"), micrometers (outside/inside to 0.0001"), and go/no-go gauges, thread gauges, thread pitch micrometers, etc.   

o Ability to select the correct gauge, zero/verify calibration status, take repeatable measurements, and document results on production/quality records.   

o Able to determine conformance to Quality Assurance specifications and tolerances shown on job travelers/prints.               

 Machine/Cell Proficiency

o Demonstrated ability to start up, operate, and monitor department machinery.   

o Perform offsets/parameter adjustments within authorized limits; change tools; verify tool condition and request replacements.   

o Ability to interpret blueprints.   

Experience

o Minimum 5 years in the field of CNC Mill and Lathe operations, (or equivalent training) 

o Proficient with Mazak and Okuma CNC. o Programming in G-Code, Mazatrol, and use of CAD-CAM.   

o Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.   

o Math & Documentation   

o Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; convert between inch/metric; calculate simple rates and averages.   

o Competent use of a calculator and basic data entry in paper or electronic production/quality forms.   

Communication

o Effective written and verbal communication with operators, quality, maintenance, and supervision; able to report abnormalities and hand off between shifts.   

Quality & Safety

o Read and follow work instructions, job travelers, schedules, and basic prints.   

o Adhere to 5S/TPM and all safety policies; wear required PPE; complete required internal certifications (e.g., Lock Out | Tag- Out (“LOTO”), forklift/overhead crane) if assigned.   

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE 

o Productivity: Maintain an efficiency rating of ≥ 80% against established standard work or engineered standards, averaged over a rolling four-week period, after completion of training/qualification.

o Quality/Safety: Meet first-pass quality requirements and comply with all safety procedures and PPE rules; repeated safety or quality violations may disqualify an otherwise acceptable efficiency rating.

o Documentation/5S: Complete all production and quality records accurately and on time; maintain housekeeping/5S in the assigned cell. 

o Attendance/Teamwork: Comply with the attendance policy; communicate issues and coordinate with team members and supervision. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION)   

o Manual tasks: Regular use of hands to handle and feel parts, tools, gauges, and controls; frequent reaching with hands/arms. 

o Postures & mobility: Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting; occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as needed to support production and maintenance activities.         

o Lifting/force: Regularly lift and carry up to 25 lbs.; occasionally lift and carry up to 45 lbs.; push/pull carts or containers as required (mechanical aids provided where available). Request assistance for loads exceeding limits or when awkward.

o Vision/hearing: Close and distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; ability to hear alarms, equipment sounds, and verbal instructions. 

o Dexterity: Sufficient fine motor skills to manipulate small parts and use precision measuring devices.


 WORK ENVIRONMENT   

o Fast-paced production setting with moving machinery, forklifts, and routine exposure to industrial noise, oils/coolants, and airborne particulates; temperature may vary seasonally. 

o PPE required (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety shoes) and adherence to all safety procedures.

o Must be able to work assigned schedule, which may include overtime, weekends, and shift changes to meet customer demand.


OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS   

o Must be 18 years of age or older. 

o Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent. 

o Must have a valid driver’s license. 

o Must complete and maintain required internal certifications (e.g., LOTO, powered industrial truck/overhead crane, as applicable) and any job-specific skill qualifications. 

o Must comply with all company policies.
