Job description

Business Editor, Omaha World-Herald

The Omaha World-Herald is seeking a hard-charging, multi-dimensional journalist to lead the next phase of our business coverage.

This is a key newsroom role tied to a coverage area central to our growth strategy. We’re looking for a player/coach who can produce high-impact journalism across platforms while helping shape coverage priorities, mentor colleagues, and contribute to new product launches.

Omaha is home to Berkshire Hathaway and multiple other Fortune 500 companies. Nebraska is the No. 1 state in the country for beef exports and a top exporter of corn, soybeans, and other agricultural products. It’s one of the most under-covered, high-impact business environments in the country.

We’re looking for a razor-sharp journalist who can distill complicated topics for a broad audience while helping set the agenda for a business community with a rich history and ambitious growth targets.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have a proven track record of delivering high-impact business journalism in a fast-paced, competitive market

• Be comfortable operating as both a reporter and a newsroom leader, helping guide coverage and develop colleagues

• Be fluent across platforms, including newsletters, podcasts, and short-form video

• Understand how business intersects politics, policy, and everyday life in Nebraska

• Bring energy, curiosity, and a drive to build audience and deliver a best-in-class product

• Have at least three years of relevant reporting experience; leadership experience is a plus

Attach a resume, three work samples, and a memo articulating your vision for the role, addressed to Executive Editor Ben Doody with your application.
