Laboratory Cytologist – Cytologist

Job Summary

Seeking a qualified Laboratory Cytologist to perform specialized and complex cytology testing, including the screening and evaluation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens for evidence of cancer and other pathological conditions. The Cytologist will perform quality control procedures, evaluate specimen acceptability, and participate in Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) of Fine Needle Aspirations using telepathology technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Screen and evaluate gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens for abnormal and malignant findings.
  • Identify and mark cellular abnormalities according to established departmental protocols.
  • Render appropriate cytologic diagnoses and determine cases requiring quality control or pathologist review.
  • Perform specialized and complex technical procedures related to cytology specimen processing.
  • Participate in Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) collection, processing, and immediate evaluation.
  • Perform Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) using telepathology systems.
  • Apply appropriate specimen processing techniques to ensure accurate and timely testing.
  • Evaluate specimen acceptability and determine whether specimens meet department testing requirements.
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with internal policies, laboratory protocols, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Accurately document testing and findings.
  • Maintain strong organization and attention to detail in a high-volume laboratory environment.
  • Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to ensure accurate and efficient patient testing.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree OR completion of an accredited Cytotechnology Program with certificate of completion.
  • Strong cytology laboratory knowledge and technical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to accurately evaluate complex cytologic specimens.
  • Ability to work independently while following established protocols and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to specimen quality and patient safety.
