How much do cyclotron jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 11, 2026, the average yearly pay for cyclotron in the United States is $64,992.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $50,500.00 and $74,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a cyclotron do?

A cyclotron is a type of particle accelerator used to accelerate charged particles, such as protons or ions, to high energies. These particles are then used in medical treatments like cancer radiotherapy or in scientific research to study atomic and subatomic properties. Working as a cyclotron operator or technician involves understanding complex equipment, safety protocols, and precise control of particle beams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Cyclotron position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a cyclotron operator or technician role, you need strong knowledge of nuclear physics, radiation safety, and electronics, typically supported by a degree in physics, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with radiation monitoring devices, particle accelerator controls, and compliance with regulatory certifications (such as those from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission) is crucial. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and excellent teamwork are valued soft skills in this position. These qualities ensure safe, precise operation of cyclotron equipment and support collaboration in highly regulated laboratory or medical environments.

What does a typical workday look like for someone operating a cyclotron?

A typical day for a cyclotron operator involves preparing and calibrating the cyclotron equipment, monitoring systems during operation, and performing routine maintenance or troubleshooting as needed. You may also be responsible for conducting radiation safety checks, documenting procedures, and collaborating with physicists, engineers, and medical staff depending on the facility. The role often requires adherence to strict safety protocols and careful coordination with team members to ensure experiments or isotope production run smoothly. Flexibility is sometimes needed to accommodate irregular hours, especially in medical or research settings where production schedules can change.

What is a Cyclotron job?

A Cyclotron job typically involves operating and maintaining a cyclotron, a type of particle accelerator used in medical, research, and industrial applications. Professionals in this role ensure the safe production of radioisotopes for medical imaging and cancer treatment. They perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot technical issues, and adhere to radiation safety protocols. The job often requires knowledge of physics, engineering, and radiation safety regulations.

What jobs make $1,000,000 a year?

In the field of cyclotron operation or related nuclear science roles, earning $1,000,000 annually is rare and typically limited to high-level executives, research directors, or specialized consultants in large organizations. Such compensation often involves extensive experience, advanced degrees, and leadership responsibilities, sometimes supplemented by bonuses or profit-sharing. Most cyclotron-related jobs offer salaries well below this threshold, with top executives or entrepreneurs in the industry being more likely to reach this income level.

What jobs pay $10,000 a month without a degree?

For a cyclotron operator or technician, high-paying roles can reach $10,000 a month with specialized training and experience, often without requiring a traditional degree. These roles typically involve working in medical, research, or industrial settings and may require certifications or technical skills. Other high-paying jobs without degrees include sales, real estate, or certain entrepreneurial ventures, but they vary widely in income stability and requirements.

What jobs in the US pay 300,000 a year?

In the field related to cyclotrons and nuclear science, senior roles such as research directors, medical physicists, or senior engineers can reach or exceed $300,000 annually, especially with advanced degrees, specialized skills, and extensive experience. These positions often require expertise in particle acceleration, radiation safety, and equipment management, typically within research institutions, hospitals, or industry. High-level management or consulting roles in related fields may also achieve this salary level.
