Job description

Responsibilities
Position Summary
Peraton is seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer to support cybersecurity and classified program operations within a federal government contracting environment. This role is responsible for developing, editing, managing, and publishing high-quality technical and client-facing documentation in support of mission-critical cybersecurity initiatives and executive-level reporting requirements.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, high-security environment and possess exceptional writing, collaboration, and organizational skills. This position requires producing classified and unclassified documentation, managing document iterations through final publication, and supporting leadership with time-sensitive deliverables for federal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation supporting cybersecurity operations, classified programs, and enterprise IT initiatives.
  • Work within a SCIF environment to produce, manage, and publish classified documentation in accordance with federal security protocols and handling procedures.
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), process documentation, executive briefings, technical reports, and customer-facing deliverables.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity engineers, analysts, program managers, government stakeholders, and technical teams to gather information and translate complex concepts into clear, concise documentation.
  • Manage document lifecycle activities including drafting, editing, version control, stakeholder reviews, revisions, approvals, and final publication.
  • Coordinate multiple concurrent projects while meeting aggressive deadlines and rapid turnaround requirements.
  • Ensure documentation complies with organizational standards, federal formatting requirements, classification guidelines, and quality assurance processes.
  • Participate in project meetings, reviews, and working groups to capture requirements and ensure documentation accuracy.
  • Incorporate feedback from leadership, technical reviewers, and customers to continuously improve deliverables.
  • Support executive communications and strategic initiatives through the creation of polished, professional written materials.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with government regulations.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing, documentation management, or communications support within a government or highly regulated environment (3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD), 9 years with a HS Diploma
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and professional technical and executive-level documentation.
  • Experience developing SOPs, operational procedures, reports, white papers, and customer-facing deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of document lifecycle management, editing, version control, and publication processes.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple high-priority deliverables with tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Active TS/SCI or Q/SCI clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Department of Energy or other federal agencies.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts, terminology, and operational environments.
  • Experience using collaboration and document management platforms such as SharePoint, Confluence, or Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Graphic design or data visualization experience for executive presentations and reports.

Target Salary Range
$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
