Job description

Our core competencies include systems engineering, program management, logistics, production support, aircraft maintenance, and aviation/aerospace services. We were founded in 2015 and since our establishment, we have been attracting the best talent in our fields of interest enabling us to provide cutting‑edge solutions and support to our warfighters. We understand and provide expert consultation on weapons systems acquisition programs, maintenance/modernization programs, and sustainment programs. We know defense and we know aircraft systems.

Albers Aerospace is reimagining how knowledge work gets done at our corporate headquarters by building AI systems that carry out internal business processes end to end. We are seeking a senior engineer to lead this effort – someone who works shoulder to shoulder with the people who run our business, understands their workflows in depth, and rapidly turns new requests into working software. Using AI‑assisted development tools such as Claude Code, this engineer will move from idea to deployed implementation in days rather than months, then deploy and operate that software securely in the cloud. This is a high‑touch, high‑ownership role for an engineer who wants their work measured by the business processes they transform, not just the code they ship.

  • Partner directly with business leaders and functional stakeholders across Finance, Contracts, Human Resources, Operations, Supply Chain, and other departments to understand current‑state workflows, identify inefficiencies, and translate business needs into scalable software solutions.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to business stakeholders, helping evaluate automation opportunities, prioritize initiatives, and define practical implementation roadmaps that maximize business value.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain custom internal applications, services, and AI‑enabled tools that automate business processes and reduce manual effort across the organization.
  • Utilize AI‑assisted software development platforms such as Claude Code and other large language model (LLM)-based tools to accelerate solution development, improve engineering productivity, and rapidly deliver business capabilities.
  • Lead rapid prototyping efforts by converting business concepts into working software solutions within days, validating requirements through iterative stakeholder feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Architect and implement integrations between internal applications, ERP systems, databases, APIs, document repositories, and third‑party business systems to create seamless end‑to‑end workflows.
  • Design and develop AI‑powered agents, workflow automation tools, and decision‑support systems capable of executing business tasks autonomously within defined governance, compliance, and security guardrails.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and development methodologies to continuously improve automation capabilities and organizational effectiveness.
  • Create scalable, maintainable, and secure software solutions using Ruby on Rails and modern software engineering practices.
  • Establish and maintain application architecture standards, coding practices, and technical patterns that support long‑term maintainability, scalability, and operational reliability.
  • Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment processes that enable rapid and reliable software releases.
  • Deploy, configure, monitor, and maintain applications within Microsoft Azure environments, including Azure Container Apps and supporting cloud infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to ensure high system availability, performance, and user satisfaction.
  • Collaborate closely with IT, Cybersecurity, and Compliance teams to ensure all applications adhere to corporate security policies and applicable government requirements.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, transmission, and protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) in accordance with NIST SP 800‑171 and related cybersecurity standards.
  • Participate in security reviews, vulnerability remediation efforts, access control design, and secure software development practices.
  • Own the operational health and lifecycle management of deployed applications, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, performance optimization, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Lead technical design discussions and provide architectural guidance to engineering team members while helping establish best practices for AI‑enabled software development.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers by providing technical guidance, code reviews, design feedback, and professional development coaching.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, system architecture diagrams, operational procedures, and user‑facing documentation to support long‑term maintainability and knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define success metrics, measure business impact, and continuously improve the effectiveness of deployed solutions.
  • Drive a culture of innovation, experimentation, accountability, and continuous learning focused on leveraging AI and automation to transform business operations.
  • Support strategic initiatives, special projects, and organizational transformation efforts through the development of scalable software and automation capabilities.
  • Maintain a high level of ownership and accountability for solution outcomes, ensuring systems deliver measurable operational improvements, cost savings, productivity gains, and enhanced business performance.

Note: The duties and responsibilities described on this document are not necessarily a comprehensive list and additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time; and the scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering or related STEM discipline
  • 3‑5 years of relevant work experience
  • Must be a U.S. citizen. Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret security clearance
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑facing skills; comfortable working directly with non‑technical business users to understand and reshape their workflows
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability, with a high work ethic and a strong sense of ownership
  • Proficiency developing and operating web applications with Ruby on Rails
  • Comfort with, or strong eagerness to adopt, AI‑assisted development tools such as Claude Code to accelerate delivery
  • Experience with modern source control tools and practices and with Agile/iterative development
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate Degree engineering in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • +5 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience deploying and operating applications on Microsoft Azure, particularly Azure Container Apps

  • Experience with containers and virtualization technologies – configuring, deploying, and managing
  • Familiarity with handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and with security frameworks such as NIST SP 800‑171
  • Establishing and using dependency management, source control, issue tracking, build, and test facilities in a closed or high‑security environment
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Primarily an office‑based role at our corporate headquarters in McKinney, Texas, with regular in‑person collaboration alongside internal stakeholders.
  • CONUS travel may be required from time to time.
