We are seeking a highly skilled Cyber Defense Network Security Senior Engineer to join our Cyber Defense team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise network security solutions that protect critical business systems, data, and operations from evolving cyber threats. The ideal candidate will serve as a senior technical expert, providing leadership in network security architecture, security operations, incident response support, and strategic security initiatives across the organization.

This position requires a strong background in network security engineering, security architecture, compliance frameworks, and the ability to collaborate across infrastructure, cloud, application, and cybersecurity teams to build and maintain a resilient security posture.

This is a hybrid position which will require the candidate to report and work from the office at least three days a week. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute radius from Temple, TX or Austin, TX.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network security technologies, including:
    • Firewalls
    • Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS)
    • Wireless Network Security
    • Web Application Firewalls (WAF)
    • DNS Filtering
    • Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB)
    • Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
    • Secure Remote Access Solutions
  • Lead the architecture, deployment, and optimization of network security controls, including:
    • Firewall rule lifecycle management
    • Network segmentation strategies
    • Zero Trust and access control frameworks
    • Secure network design standards
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce network security standards, configurations, and best practices aligned with organizational policies and compliance requirements, including:
    • NIST
    • ISO 27001
    • SOX
    • PCI DSS
  • Monitor and analyze network traffic, security events, and threat intelligence to identify potential risks and emerging threats.
  • Provide senior-level technical expertise and network forensics support to incident response teams during security investigations and cyber events.
  • Partner with Vulnerability Management teams to conduct security assessments, configuration reviews, and risk analyses of network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to ensure secure design, deployment, and integration of new technologies and business initiatives.
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor for network security architecture decisions, policy development, and security program enhancements.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging security technologies and tools that improve visibility, threat detection, prevention, and response capabilities.
  • Participate in the resolution of escalated operational and security incidents, providing expert-level troubleshooting and guidance.
  • Mentor junior engineers, provide technical leadership, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and strategic security projects.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 years of experience in network security engineering, cybersecurity operations, or related disciplines.
  • Strong expertise in enterprise firewall platforms, IDS/IPS technologies, VPNs, network segmentation, and secure access architectures.
  • Experience supporting incident response investigations, network forensics, and threat analysis activities.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and regulatory requirements, including NIST, ISO 27001, SOX, and PCI DSS.
  • Experience working with cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, wireless networking, and network security principles.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, CCIE Security, GIAC, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Zero Trust architectures and cloud security controls.
  • Experience with security monitoring, SIEM platforms, threat intelligence, and automation technologies.
  • Leadership experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
