What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Cyber Security Solution Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cyber Security Solution Architect, you need a deep understanding of security frameworks, network architecture, and risk management, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with security tools like SIEM, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and certifications such as CISSP or CISM are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and leadership skills help in translating complex security needs into practical solutions and fostering collaboration across teams. These competencies are crucial to designing robust, scalable security measures that protect organizations from evolving cyber threats.

Cybersecurity Solution Architect - Remote (Proposal & Pre-Sales Support)

Remote (May require travel)

6+ months

The Cybersecurity Solution Architect is a strategic technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and presenting advanced managed security solutions for enterprise customers in a Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) environment. This role focuses on NextGen hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud). It is pivotal in supporting pre-sales activity, crafting compelling proposals, and delivering executive-ready presentations that articulate business and technical value. Core solution areas include Managed Detection & Response (MDR), Exposure Management (attack surface, vulnerability, and threat exposure), Cloud-Native Application Protection (CNAP/CNAPP), and Cloud Security across multi-cloud and hybrid architectures.

Key Responsibilities

Proposal & Pre-Sales Support

• Lead the technical response for cybersecurity-related RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs, ensuring alignment with client requirements and MSSP capabilities.

• Collaborate with bid teams, sales, and solution managers to develop tailored architectures addressing client pain points, compliance, and regulatory needs.

• Translate complex cybersecurity concepts—especially MDR, Exposure Management, CNAP, and Cloud Security—into clear, value-driven proposal narratives, diagrams, and pricing inputs.

• Participate in client presentations, orals, and solution defense sessions as the subject matter expert.

• Develop and deliver formal written proposals, PowerPoint presentations, and related communication media to effectively communicate solution value and competitive differentiation.

Solution Architecture & Design

• Design and document end-to-end cybersecurity solutions, including:

o Managed Detection and Response (MDR)

o Exposure Management (attack surface reduction, vulnerability management)

o CNAP (Cloud-Native Application Protection)

o Cloud Security (multi-cloud, hybrid cloud, workload protection)

o Endpoint, network, and cloud security architectures

• Define multi-tenant, scalable architectures suitable for MSSP delivery models.

• Ensure solutions meet regulatory, security, and operational requirements (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, Zero Trust).

• Guide partners and clients in embedding MDR, CNAP, and cloud security platforms within managed services portfolios.

Customer Engagement & Presentation

• Develop and deliver high-quality client presentations (virtual and in-person) that clearly communicate technical and business value.

• Run workshops and conduct security assessments to help clients understand their security and privacy risks, exposures, and vulnerabilities.

• Serve as the technical lead in client meetings, demos, and solution defense sessions.

• Provide architectural oversight and technical guidance during project delivery.

Collaboration & Innovation

• Work closely with delivery teams, product managers, and security operations to ensure feasibility and alignment of proposed solutions.

• Contribute to the development of reusable solution components, templates, and accelerators.

• Stay current on cybersecurity trends, vendor roadmaps, and emerging threats to inform solution strategy.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ years in cybersecurity, with a focus on solution architecture and proposal development for MSSP or consulting environments.

• 5+ years supporting proposal responses or pre-sales activities.

• Deep knowledge of MDR, Exposure Management, CNAP, and Cloud Security tools and protocols.

• Experience designing solutions for hybrid and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).

• Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST CSF, Zero Trust).

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to engage technical and executive stakeholders.

• Experience with endpoint protection, cloud workload security, and exposure management.

• Hands-on experience with SIEM/XDR solutions and security operations.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field preferred.

• Relevant certifications (CISSP, CCSP, Azure Security Engineer, etc.) are a plus.
