Job description

Position Purpose

Upholds the Credit Union’s mission of “We do the right thing one member, one employee, and one experience at a time to strengthen the communities we serve” by overseeing the development and implementation of the organization's cybersecurity strategy. This role involves managing a team of cybersecurity professionals overseeing day to day operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and protecting the organization's digital assets from cyber threats. This role involves coordinating with various departments to ensure the security of information systems and data.

Essential Responsibilities 

Sets and Monitors the Department’s Standards

  • Oversees the Cybersecurity Team, providing mentorship, guidance and oversight to daily operations

Strategy and Planning

  • Creation and execution of cybersecurity strategies that increase the efficiency and posture of IT systems and projects throughout the organization.
  • Preparing budgetary allocations and financial forecasts relating to cybersecurity.
  • Managing partners, stakeholders, vendors and third-party solutions providers.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive cybersecurity policies and procedures Develop a yearly organizational cybersecurity strategy.
  • Work with the Risk department to develop and enforce cybersecurity policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and security audits to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Implement security solutions to address identified threats.
  • Coordinate incident response and manage data breach situations.
  • Monitor and analyze network traffic for security incidents.
  • Stay updated with the latest cybersecurity threats and technologies.

Leadership

  • Provide mentorship and career development opportunities for security team members.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a team of cybersecurity analysts and engineers.
  • Manage daily operations of cybersecurity staff and activities.
  • Establish, maintain and advocate a robust security awareness program throughout the organization.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure comprehensive security coverage.
  • Provide training and awareness programs for employees on cybersecurity best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Risk department on the incident response planning, playbooks and execution.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate security measures into all aspects of the organization.
  • Report on the status of cybersecurity initiatives to Senior Leadership.
  • Provide input on security requirements to be included in request for proposals (RFPs), statements of work (SOWs), and other procurement document

Necessary Experience and Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, cybersecurity or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or CompTIA Security+ are appreciated but not required.
  • 3+ years proven experience in cybersecurity.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills. 
  • In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Familiarity with security tools and technologies.
  • Initiative-taking with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage  changing priorities. 
  • Ability to analyze, research, and resolve technical problems. 
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours. 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Office environment with moderate to high level of noise.
  • Frequent use of telephone, computer, multifunction printer, and other office machines.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing, and ability to stay in one place or work in a confined area for extended periods.
  • May travel occasionally as needed to fulfill the duties of the position.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for over 90 percent of work time. 
  • Some work to be performed outside of normal business hours.
  • Moderate lifting of up to 20 pounds. Also, ability to transport objects weighing between 5 and 20 pounds for 5 to 10 percent of work time”.
