Cyber Security Development Program Associate - 2027

Key Role Details
  • Full-time new hires for this role will start as a cohort in a rotational program in August 2027
  • This role is a full-time associate position within an 18-month rotational program, designed as a career accelerator to foster the next generation of leading cyber talent
  • Participation in the program requires that you are located in the continental United States with in-person attendance at your assigned location, in accordance with Capital One’s hybrid working model

Basic Qualifications
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor’s degree or higher with an expectation that you will complete your most recent full-time degree program by August 2027 or earlier
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical and/or quantitative discipline, including computer science, computer engineering, cyber security, information assurance, information systems, information technology, or mathematics
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles, network concepts, digital forensics, and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
  • Knowledge of the basics of network security and protocols (e.g., encryption, firewalls, authentication, perimeter protection)
  • Strong interest in cybersecurity and a desire to explore multiple domains before specializing
  • Coursework in IT fundamentals, cloud security, cryptography, network security, and/or data security
  • Knowledge of industry-standard cybersecurity frameworks (NIST Cybersecurity Framework, MITRE ATT&CK)
  • Hands-on experience or coursework in digital forensics, malware analysis, or incident response
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, problem solving and conceptual skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
  • Basic programming skills or experience in one or more of the following areas: Java, Python, C#, C/C++, JSON, SQL, PL/SQL, Shell scripts)

As a Cyber Security Associate within our Cyber Security Development Program, you’ll dive into a wide range of real-world challenges across cloud infrastructure, networks, platforms, and application security. Whether you are on the front-lines in defending systems against evolving threats, assessing network security configurations, or monitoring for intrusions, your work will have a direct impact on securing our digital environment.

You’ll play a critical role in evaluating cyber risks through rotational assignments such as:

  • Supporting compliance initiatives and shaping security policies that govern enterprise-wide protection
  • Conducting penetration tests, assessing vulnerabilities, or designing defenses to harden our systems
  • Analyzing cyber data to understand weaknesses in our defenses and opportunities to improve the security posture of our environment
  • A variety of other key rotational assignments, allowing you to explore the full breadth of the Cyber Security domain

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $140,000 - $140,000 for Associate, Cyber Security Development ProgramPlano, TX: $127,000 - $127,000 for Associate, Cyber Security Development Program

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
