Job description
Mandate: The Director, Infrastructure Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the university's core technology infrastructure that enables the university's digital services. The role ensures that UVic's infrastructure is modern, secure, sustainable, and reliable and capable of supporting data-intensive teaching, learning, research, and administrative services. This includes responsibility for enterprise and hybrid cloud infrastructure, data centres, networks, cybersecurity infrastructure, and disaster recovery capabilities.
Objectives: Provide strategic direction for enterprise infrastructure services aligned with university priorities, including artificial intelligence, financial sustainability, and cybersecurity. Ensure the availability, integrity, security, and performance of critical technology infrastructure. Lead the planning and evolution of networks, servers, storage, data centre services, and cybersecurity infrastructure.
Support research, teaching, and administrative functions through reliable technology services. Develop long-term infrastructure roadmaps, investment plans, and sustainability strategies. Foster a high-performing and collaborative infrastructure services team.
Advance business continuity, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity capabilities. Represent the university in sector and external partnerships related to infrastructure. Unusual working conditions: Occasional response to critical infrastructure incidents, cybersecurity events, and major service disruptions.
Participation in after-hours maintenance activities and emergency response when required. Responsibility for highly critical services where outages may have institution-wide impact. High level of strategic, operational, and financial decision-making affecting university-wide technology services.Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline
