APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE*** Job Summary The State Chief Privacy Officer & General Counsel serves as the principal legal advisor and chief privacy executive for the Governor's Technology Office (GTO). Reporting directly to the State Chief Information Officer, this executive position provides legal counsel, privacy leadership, strategic policy guidance, and enterprise risk management support for statewide technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital government, data governance, and information management initiatives.

As a member of the GTO Executive Leadership Team, the incumbent serves as a trusted advisor to the State CIO, the Governor's Office, executive branch leadership, and statewide governance bodies on matters involving technology law, privacy, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, public records, procurement, data sharing, emerging technologies, and enterprise risk. The State Chief Privacy Officer & General Counsel is responsible for establishing and overseeing Nevada's enterprise privacy program, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws, advising on technology-related legal and policy matters, and supporting the State CIO in carrying out statutory responsibilities related to statewide information technology, cybersecurity, and technology governance. The position provides leadership in developing legal, privacy, and ethical frameworks that enable innovation while protecting the interests of Nevada's residents, businesses, visitors, and government agencies.

The incumbent works collaboratively with agency directors, constitutional officers, elected officials, legal counsel, and executive leadership to advance secure, transparent, efficient, and citizen-centered government services. Essential Qualifications Seven or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties with a minimum of two years of managerial experience and a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Preferred Qualifications: Maintain an active license to practice law in good standing with the State Bar of Nevada or be eligible for admission under applicable Nevada Supreme Court Rules Advanced legal education beyond the Juris Doctor, such as an LL.M

in privacy, cybersecurity, technology law, public administration, or a related discipline. Additional credentials in privacy, cybersecurity, risk management, or governance-such as CIPP, CIPM, CGRC, or comparable certifications-are desirable. Experience serving as legal counsel within government agencies, regulatory entities, or organizations engaged in technology modernization initiatives is strongly preferred, as is experience with legislative analysis, policy drafting, public-sector compliance, data-sharing frameworks, and AI governance.

Job Duties The State Chief Privacy Officer & General Counsel serves as the senior legal and privacy executive for the Governor's Technology Office and functions as the primary legal advisor to the State CIO on matters affecting statewide technology operations and governance. The position provides strategic legal oversight and privacy leadership for: Statewide technology governance initiatives Enterprise cybersecurity programs Artificial intelligence governance and policy Data governance and data-sharing frameworks Digital government modernization initiatives Enterprise technology procurement and contracting Privacy and regulatory compliance programs Public records and information management matters Legislative and regulatory analysis affecting technology and cybersecurity The incumbent represents the Governor's Technology Office in executive branch policy discussions, legislative matters, intergovernmental initiatives, national associations, and public-private partnerships involving technology, cybersecurity, privacy, and digital government.
