Job description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for inspecting welds in-process to insure they meet customer specifications and company quality requirements, and maintains notes and records accordingly.

Responsibilities / Duties

  • Review welding procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), Welder Qualification Records (WPQR), Non-Destructive Test (NDT) Final Test Reports
  • Complete in-process inspection records
  • Monitor and approve all in-process repairs of non-conforming welds.
  • Insure when NDT isrequiredthe notation of โ€œpasses all testsโ€is noted on inspection records.
  • Confirm all welds meetcustomer and/orAWSacceptancecriteria.
  • Confirm all parts are present and properly oriented on theweldmentaccording to thedetaileddrawings.
  • Mark inspection logs with defectsfound.
  • Re-inspect any repair or rework that isrequiredafterinitialinspection.
  • Monitor welder qualification testing.
  • Develop visual inspection procedure and provide NDT inspection planningschedules.
  • Provide training to welders and inspectors IAW NavistarGeneral Standard Repair Procedure (SRP)
  • Track all defect data found and report to Quality Assurance Manager
  • Verify safety requirements compliance.
  • Review contract requirements and vendor contract compliance
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current orpreviousCertification as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) IAW AWS QC1orCanadian weldingBureau (CWB) Level IIpreferred but notrequired
  • Certificate from a combination welding program, associate degree preferred but notrequired.
  • Certified NDT level II in MT/PT preferred but notrequired.
  • Able to read and interpret welding symbols as detailed on weld drawings.
  • Weld inspection experience with Military vehiclesdesiredbut notrequired.
  • Proficiencyin the use of weldinspection toolsincludingweldgauges, NDT equipment, and micrometers.
  • 2yearsโ€™ experience reviewing and interpreting structural steel plans, working drawings, technical specifications.
  • Able to clearly communicate welding issues and other needs to team members and supervisors.
  • Essential Functions include but are not limited to: Ability tolift upto 50 lbs. on a regular basis, work in extreme cold and hot temperatures, squat, kneel, push, pull, and stand forlong periodsof time.
