Job description

Summary:

Responsible for all activities within the Tooling Department including cutting dies, print plates, and ink management. Supports the production team by maintaining cutting dies and servicing machine calls for the Converting Department.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Candidates are PREFERRED who have experience in the corrugated industry.
  • Relevant Technical skills may include:
    • Knowledge and experience with the Ink Kitchen system.
    • Cutting Die & Print Plate manufacturing
    • Product layouts and print production specifications
    • Metal fabrication skills including bending metal and/or using power tools

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the production demands for cutting die, print plates, and ink are fulfilled as a first priority.
  • Perform start of shift walkthrough - verify all tooling needed is at the machines.
  • Maintains cutting dies from completed jobs - tooling should be inspected, serviced, and returned to proper locations.
  • Works alongside the Operators to track and repair red tagged tooling.
  • All Die Technicians must be qualified to inspect and recognize tooling that needs to be repaired, replaced, or revised.
  • Be trained on Cutting Die and Print Plate construction and be able to perform basic repairs in house.
  • Be able to replace damaged/missing rule on cutting dies, able to replace rubber and ejection materials.
  • Continuously monitor the production schedule and be on-call to solve production issues related to tooling.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to read digital scheduling tools and be able to operate automated systems to move and process tooling.
  • Communicate to the Superintendent and Supervisors the status of tooling and communicate those needs to management.
  • Ensures all Tooling Department areas are kept clean and tidy.
  • Works on special projects as assigned by Management.
  • Must be able to work well independently.
  • Any other task as assigned by your supervisor.Must have good attendance.
  • Will train on 1st shift, must be able to work 3rd shift.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters. Able to communicate via radio to other departments.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.Able to calculate amounts such as percentages, measurements, volumes, and rates.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    To apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.Able to prioritize a list of tasks and manage the work flow of a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Ability to problem solve using technical knowledge and an understanding of common production systems.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License and/or other appropriate certification to work in certain areas or on certain equipment.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk, and hear.The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 to 75 pounds. Must be able to lift and carry above your head. Must be able to climb step ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
