Job Description Summary
The Seasonal Registered Nurse supervises and oversees the health and safety of all participants in the Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe environment by remaining current on medical and public health guidance while managing the medical needs of minors. This position requires a high level of responsibility, self-direction, and discretion, involving frequent collaboration with the AVP, Executive Director of Pre-College Programs, the Director of the Summer Immersion Program, Pre-College professional staff, residential summer staff, and direct communication with families. The Nurse will participate in on-campus onboarding, including in-person and online training, prior to the arrival of participants.
Job Description
Essential Functions:
  • Medical Review & Prep: Review all participant medical forms before the program begins; follow up with parents/guardians for clarifying information; compile and organize virtual lists of students for staff knowledge.
  • Participant Care: Meet with families during Sunday Check In to discuss medical needs; provide primary care, mental and physical health, as well as first aid for student health needs; oversee the safekeeping and record-keeping of all medications.
  • Staff Training: Lead health training sessions for residential staff on adolescent health, food allergy management, and emergency procedures (e.g., Epi-Pen use, heat concerns, and COVID-19 protocols). Share updates during staff meetings as needed.
  • Communication: Manage medical-related phone calls and emails from parents; provide regular wellness feedback to Pre-College professional staff; notify AVP/ Executive Director of significant incidents requiring intervention.
  • On-Campus and Off-Campus Physical Health Support: Coordinate with Wake Forest Student Health regarding Summer Immersion Program student health needs if a student is seen by the Wake Forest Student Health Center. Provide off-campus support as needed to ensure medical coverage.
  • Mental Health Support: Identify and assess student mental health and wellness needs through active observation and consultation; facilitate timely referrals to appropriate healthcare professionals, hospitals, or community resources to ensure continuity of care.
  • Emergency Management: Oversee escalation of care to the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center or local clinics, including transporting students to the emergency room or urgent care when necessary.
  • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the Code of Student Conduct, Protection of Minors policy, and all University health and safety protocols.

Required Commitment & Logistics
Weekly Schedule (40 Hours Total):
  • Sunday: 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm
  • Monday - Thursday: 4:00 pm - 12:00 am (midnight)
  • Friday & Saturday: Off
  • On-Call: As needed; staff are permitted to sleep after their shift but must be available to answer calls and assist if a medical or health issue/ emergency arises.

Additional Position Information:
  • On-campus housing is provided in an assigned Wake Forest University residence hall.
  • Meals provided at the on-campus dining hall, The Pit (Sunday dinner; Mon-Thu breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Required Weeks of Work
  • Staff Move-in: May 29, 2026 (2:00 pm - 5:00 pm)
  • Staff Training: June 1 - 5, 2026
  • Program Weeks:

• Week 1: June 7 - 12
• Week 2: June 14 - 19
• Week 3: June 21 - 26
• (1 week of unpaid vacation: June 28 - July 3)
• Week 4: July 5 - 10
• Week 5: July 12 - 17
• Week 6: July 19 - 24
  • Residency: All candidates must remain on campus during all work hours.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
The ideal candidate will bring:
  • Licensure: Qualification to practice in the State of North Carolina; must hold a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician's Assistant (PA) license.
  • Experience: Previous experience in pediatrics, school nursing, or clinical settings, preferably working with adolescents and their families.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with online record management systems and general technology.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to remain calm under pressure, establish priorities in a fast-paced environment, and communicate professionally with various stakeholders.
  • Requirements: Must be 21+ years of age with a valid Driver's License and high moral character.
