Position Overview

Peter Johnson Builders is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead high-end residential construction projects from pre-construction through completion. This role is responsible for managing field production, schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and client communication while maintaining the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.


The ideal candidate is a proactive, personable leader who can effectively manage complex custom home projects, communicate with high-end clientele, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.


This is a hands-on field management position requiring daily travel to active construction sites.


Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Production Oversight

  • Manage residential construction projects from pre-construction through final completion
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and production plans
  • Lead field production teams and coordinate daily construction activities
  • Review plans, specifications, proposals, and contracts for scope, cost, and schedule considerations
  • Coordinate efforts between architects, designers, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Conduct pre-construction meetings and ongoing project review meetings with clients
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including job logs, schedules, and progress updates
  • Manage project closeout, including punch lists and final completion

Subcontractor & Vendor Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Coordinate subcontractor schedules and ensure timely completion of work
  • Evaluate subcontractor performance and maintain quality standards
  • Ensure job sites meet company expectations for safety, organization, and cleanliness

Budget & Cost Management

  • Manage detailed project budgets and monitor financial performance
  • Identify potential cost concerns during estimating and production phases
  • Track actual costs against estimates and communicate budget impacts
  • Review and approve invoices for payment
  • Manage change orders, including scope, pricing, documentation, and client approval

Client Communication

  • Maintain professional communication with homeowners throughout the project lifecycle
  • Provide project updates and address questions or concerns promptly
  • Deliver a high level of customer service while managing client expectations


Qualifications

  • 10+ years of construction project management experience, preferably with a custom home builder or high-end residential contractor
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Building Construction, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, building practices, and safety standards
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, specifications, and bids
  • Proven ability to manage projects on time and within budget
  • Experience managing subcontractors, vendors, and construction teams
  • Strong leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and professional presence with clients and trade partners
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software
  • Ability to learn new technology platforms and systems quickly
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel daily to construction sites
  • Ability to work extended hours or occasional weekends when needed to meet project milestones
