Overview:


We are seeking a Hands-On Manufacturing Engineer to join our machining team. In this role, you will be the technical bridge between our Engineering Manager and our Setup Technicians. You will own the process from the initial PartMaker program to the physical "First-Off" setup on our Star Swiss, Takisawa, and Haas machines.

This is not a "desk job." We need a technical leader who can prove out their own programs on the floor, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and hand off a "bulletproof" process to our setup team.


Compensation Info: $30 - $45hr based on experience


The Team:

  • Collaborate with a strong Engineering Manager on DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and high-level production strategy.
  • Support a team of dedicated Setup Persons by providing them with clean, verified PartMaker programs and well-documented setup sheets.
Requirements:

Responsibilities:

  • PartMaker Programming: Create high-efficiency, multi-channel programs for Star Swiss machines using PartMaker. You will optimize "Wait Codes" and synchronization to minimize idle time and maximize throughput.
  • Lead Setup & Prove-Out: Take full responsibility for the initial setup of new, complex parts. You will physically set the tools, align the guide bushings on the Stars, and bore the jaws on the Takisawa/Haas lathes.
  • Process Stabilization: Before handing a job over to our Setup Persons, you will verify the process is stable, the tool life is predictable, and the cycle time is optimized.
  • Tooling Innovation: Select and implement high-performance tooling and high-pressure coolant strategies, specifically focusing on chip control in the tight envelopes of a Star machine.
  • Technical Mentorship: Act as the "on-the-floor" expert for the setup team, helping them troubleshoot difficult offsets or mechanical chatter issues on the Takisawa and Haas cells.

Technical Requirements:

  • Software Mastery: Proficiency in PartMaker (Autodesk) is required. Must be able to manage multi-axis synchronization and simulation. Willing to provide training.
  • Star Swiss Expertise: Extensive hands-on setup experience with Star (SR, SB, or SV series) machines, including guide bushing adjustment and sub-spindle handoff.
  • Lathe Versatility: Strong setup and programming skills for Takisawa (Fanuc) and Haas (ST-series) fixed-head lathes.
  • Control Systems: Deep knowledge of Fanuc (Star/Takisawa) and Haas control architecture.
  • GD&T Proficiency: Ability to interpret complex blueprints and ensure setups meet sub-thousandth tolerances consistently.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 7+ years of CNC machining experience desired, with at least 3 years in a Manufacturing Engineering role.
  • Hands-on: Must be able to demonstrate a track record of setting up complex Swiss and Turning jobs from scratch.
  • Language: Ability to edit G-code at the machine and write custom macros when PartMaker needs a manual tweak.
