About the Role:

As a Vintage Car Technician, you will play a crucial role in preserving and restoring classic automobiles to their original condition, ensuring both aesthetic and mechanical authenticity. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining the historical integrity and value of vintage vehicles, often requiring meticulous attention to detail and specialized knowledge of older automotive technologies. You will work closely with restoration teams to diagnose issues, source rare parts, and implement repairs that meet high standards of craftsmanship. This role demands a passion for automotive history and a commitment to quality, as your work directly impacts the longevity and performance of treasured collector cars. Ultimately, your efforts will help enthusiasts and collectors enjoy these vehicles as functional pieces of automotive heritage.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent with formal training in automotive technology or a related field.
• Proven experience working with classic or vintage automobiles, demonstrating knowledge of older mechanical and electrical systems.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills specific to non-modern automotive technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and wiring diagrams related to vintage vehicles.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a variety of classic cars safely.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification from recognized automotive restoration or classic car technician programs.
• Experience with welding, metal fabrication, and paint preparation specific to vintage car restoration.
• Familiarity with sourcing and authenticating rare vintage car parts internationally.
• Knowledge of automotive history and manufacturer-specific restoration standards.
• Experience using computerized diagnostic tools adapted for vintage vehicles.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues specific to vintage and classic cars using specialized tools and techniques.
• Perform detailed restorations including engine rebuilds, bodywork repairs, and interior refurbishments to original manufacturer specifications.
• Source and verify authenticity of rare or discontinued parts, collaborating with suppliers and networks specialized in vintage automotive components.
• Maintain detailed records of repairs, restorations, and maintenance activities to ensure historical accuracy and traceability.
• Collaborate with restoration teams, including painters, upholsterers, and historians, to deliver comprehensive vehicle restoration projects.

Skills:

The required skills enable the technician to accurately diagnose and repair complex issues unique to vintage cars, ensuring mechanical reliability and historical accuracy. Proficiency in reading technical documentation and wiring diagrams is essential for troubleshooting and restoring original systems. Preferred skills such as welding and metal fabrication allow for in-house restoration of body parts, reducing dependency on external vendors and preserving authenticity. Knowledge of sourcing rare parts and understanding manufacturer standards supports the integrity of restoration projects. Daily, these skills combine to deliver meticulous craftsmanship and maintain the operational and aesthetic excellence of classic automobiles.
