Temporary Custodian (Pool)

Position Details 

Emergency Hire - Temporary position lasting at most 90 days with an option of being extended to 180 days.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Lead Custodian and the general supervision of area manager(s) the incumbent performs
cleaning maintenance assignments in various University buildings and external spaces.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,461.00 - $4,752.00 per month 

Hiring Range/Rate: $21.00 per hour

Salary Grade/Range: 1

Time Base: Full-Time, Intermittent

Work Hours: Three work schedules are available and will be assigned by management at the time of hire.

1. Sunday, 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM; Monday-Thursday, 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM

2. Tuesday-Friday, 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM; Saturday, 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM

3. Monday-Friday, 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM

Department Information 

Facilities Management is the steward for the University buildings, physical infrastructure, grounds, and landscape. We perform maintenance and renovation of facilities; plan and manage new construction; support University initiatives though our commitment to building a welcoming campus which covers over 50 buildings on 616 acres; and by creating a dynamic physical environment for students, faculty, staff, and the community. Minimum Qualifications 

Abilities:

Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; follow verbal and written instructions to
ensure safety; operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies applicable to the position; use custodial systems
such as those used to track work orders and two-way radios for communication; observe safety requirements and safe
work practices and methods as required; perform work involving regular physical activity; and establish and maintain
cooperative work relationships. Some positions may require ability to move up to 50 pounds.

License:

Some positions may require possession of a valid California driver's license

Required Qualifications 

Knowledge/Abilities:

1. Knowledge of common custodial procedures and methods
2. Knowledge of safe cleaning practices
3. Ability to provide excellent customer service
4. Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships
5. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse environment
6. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and
constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.

Work Schedule Requirements:

7. Ability to work irregular work shifts, including weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements:

8. Ability to occasionally move (lift/carry) up to 50 pounds of equipment/supplies in a safe manner.

License Requirements:

9. Possession of a valid California driver's license and maintenance of a good driving record.

Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to complete the background check process.

Preferred Qualifications 

10. Related janitorial/custodial experience working in a higher education, school district, or other institutional
environment.

Required Licenses/Certifications 

Valid California Driver's License and maintenance of safe driving record required.
