Work Calendar: 260 Days | 8 Hours Per Day
Salary Placement: Starting at $16.73 per hour with placement on the district compensation matrix based on verified experience and position responsibility points.
Position Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment in school buildings and surrounding areas. This position performs a variety of cleaning, sanitation, and basic maintenance duties to support daily school operations and ensure a healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.
The Custodian works independently and collaboratively with school staff and the facilities team to maintain district facilities in accordance with district standards and safety practices.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
Ability to operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, and carpet cleaners.
Ability to work independently and follow written or verbal instructions.
Ability to maintain a safe working environment when using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Valid driver's license may be required depending on assignment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Daily Cleaning and Sanitation
Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and other building areas.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors and surfaces.
Clean and disinfect high-touch areas, including door handles, handrails, and light switches.
Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners.
Ensure waste and recycling are properly disposed of in designated areas.
Restroom Maintenance
Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and floors.
Restock restroom supplies, including toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
Identify and report plumbing or facility issues such as leaks or clogged fixtures.
Floor Care
Maintain floors by sweeping, mopping, buffing, waxing, and polishing.
Assist with carpet cleaning and spot removal.
Operate floor scrubbers and other custodial equipment as required.
Maintain entry mats and rugs to reduce dirt and moisture in buildings.
Facilities Setup and Special Projects
Assist with setup and breakdown for school events, meetings, and activities.
Support periodic deep cleaning tasks such as window washing, high dusting, and cleaning light fixtures.
Clean and prepare gyms, auditoriums, and multipurpose rooms for scheduled events.
Basic Maintenance and Reporting
Perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and refilling dispensers.
Monitor facilities for maintenance needs and report issues to the appropriate personnel.
Maintain custodial equipment and storage areas in a clean and organized condition.
Ensure custodial supplies are stocked and available.
Safety and Security
Identify and address potential hazards such as wet floors, broken glass, or unsafe walkways.
Follow district safety guidelines when using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Report safety concerns or security issues to supervisors or administration.
Ensure cleaning tasks are completed in accordance with district safety standards.
Outdoor and Grounds Support
Pick up litter and maintain cleanliness of entrances, sidewalks, and school grounds.
Sweep walkways and assist with outdoor event preparation when needed.
Support campus appearance and cleanliness as directed.
Collaboration and Communication
Work cooperatively with custodial staff, administrators, and school personnel.
