Job description

Job Description Summary:

This position will be required to perform duties required to meet production demands. This position will be responsible for set-up and operating brake press machines, in-process inspection and cleaning operations required in the manufacturing of steel fabrication for custom trailer and hitch products. This position will report to the Manager - Fabrication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of this position will consist of, but not limited to, the following:

  • Operate machines to remove finished work pieces or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences
  • Confer with shift leads and managers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue production
  • Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems
  • Check to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation
  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures
  • Clean machines, tooling, or parts, using solvents or solutions and rags
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction
  • Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions
  • Follow work instructions to operate machine control units to start & stop operation
  • Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished work piece dimensions, or numerical control sequences
  • Assist with the preparation of goods for shipment
  • Help to maintain necessary inventory of manufacturing supplies
  • Assist with cycle counting of material to ensure inventory integrity
  • Perform other duties as assigned
