What is a curbside shopper?

A Curbside Shopper is responsible for selecting and packing customer orders for pickup at a retail store or grocery location. They carefully follow order details, ensure product quality, and may communicate with customers about substitutions or availability. Once the order is ready, they may assist with loading it into customers' vehicles. This role requires attention to detail, efficiency, and good customer service skills.

What does a typical shift look like for a curbside shopper, and how is the work structured?

A typical shift for a Curbside Shopper involves receiving online or app-based orders, selecting items from store shelves, ensuring product freshness and accuracy, and preparing orders for efficient pickup. You’ll spend much of your time on your feet, navigating aisles and interacting with both team members and customers at curbside. Work is usually fast-paced and can involve meeting tight deadlines, especially during peak shopping hours. Many Curbside Shoppers work on rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends, often as part of a small, collaborative in-store team. This role provides valuable experience in retail operations and customer engagement, offering a solid foundation for advancing into other retail or supervisory positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the curbside shopper position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Curbside Shopper, you should have strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the physical capability to handle grocery items, with a high school diploma or equivalent often preferred. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems or store apps, barcode scanners, and mobile devices is commonly required. Excellent communication, customer service, and time-management skills help set exceptional curbside shoppers apart. These abilities ensure orders are accurately fulfilled, customers are satisfied, and store operations run smoothly and efficiently.
