CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) TEACHER
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of an administrator, a classroom teacher will implement school board policy regarding the educational curriculum of a particular instructional division and/or instructional unit associated with a state-approved CTE course of study. The teacher may teach one or more subjects.
ENDORSEMENT AREAS
Agriculture and Natural Resources; Business & Marketing Education; Education, Hospitality and Human Services; Health Science & Public Safety; Information & Media Technology; Skilled & Technical Sciences. Refer to Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 389.803 for a complete list of CTE license endorsements in each of these areas.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would allow for the acquisition of a valid Nevada teaching license in secondary CTE education or a Nevada Business & Industry (B & I) license. Typical ways to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of verified work experience in the associated teaching field, as well as acquisition of associated certifications and the ability to obtain a valid teaching license in Nevada
OR
Education: Bachelor's Degree in the associated teaching field from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience (Nevada secondary CTE license)
OR
Experience and Education: Combination of college coursework and verified work experience equivalent to a minimum of five (5) years in the associated teacher field, acquisition of associated certifications, and the ability to obtain a valid teaching license in Nevada
Knowledge of: Child development; behavior and characteristics of students; subject area and/or credential area of teaching. (e.g. special education, math, science, CTE area, etc.); effective teaching skills; planning and organizing; supervision and control; assessment and diagnosis; interpersonal relations.
Skill at: Creating an effective environment for learning, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other staff members. The ability to establish and maintain standard of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Effective utilization of technology in instruction, planning, data-based decision making and monitoring of student achievement.
License/Certificates: Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid Nevada teaching license in the relevant subject area/and or grade level.
Special Considerations: When selected for Department chair of a high school, additional pay will be provided based on number of teachers supervised. Industry experience may, in some circumstances, be counted as teaching experience for the purposes of determining salary.

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. View the salary schedules here.
Additional Job Information
The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.
Benefit packages are available for all employees, eligible employees who are regularly scheduled to work 27.5 hours per week or more receive full benefits of the District which include but are not limited to;
