Job description

About CSSI

Coastal Security Services, Inc. has been a trusted name in professional security since 2006. Licensed in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, we provide armed and unarmed officers, mobile patrols, K9 units, and technology-driven security solutions to healthcare facilities, residential communities, commercial properties, schools, and special events across the Lowcountry and beyond.

We invest in our people. CSSI officers receive hands-on training through our in-house Academy — including situational training, first aid, CPR, and advanced certifications — that goes well beyond state requirements.

About the Role

We're looking for a dependable, adaptable FLEX Security Officer to serve as a float across our client sites in the SC Lowcountry. This is not a single-post assignment — you'll rotate between healthcare facilities, upscale residential communities, and commercial properties based on operational needs.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on variety, can adapt quickly to different environments, and takes pride in being the person the team counts on to fill critical coverage gaps.

What You'll Do
  • Provide professional security coverage at multiple CSSI client sites across Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, and the surrounding Lowcountry
  • Fill scheduled shifts and provide relief coverage for call-offs, PTO, and high-demand periods
  • Perform access control, patrol, visitor management, and incident response duties
  • Monitor CCTV systems and maintain accurate daily activity reports
  • Serve as a first responder for medical emergencies, safety incidents, and security threats
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct consistent with CSSI standards
  • Communicate clearly with site supervisors, management, and dispatch
Site Types You'll Cover
  • Healthcare facilities — hospital campuses and emergency departments
  • Residential communities — gated neighborhoods with gate access, vehicle and foot patrol
  • Resort and hospitality properties — access control and guest safety
  • Commercial sites — varied post orders and security requirements
Schedule Details

This position primarily works Thursday through Monday, with Saturday and Sunday as guaranteed work days every week. Tuesday and Wednesday are your typical days off.

Shift times will rotate based on site needs:

  • Day shifts (6:00 AM - 2:00 PM)
  • Evening shifts (2:00 PM - 10:00 PM)
  • Overnight shifts (10:00 PM - 6:00 AM)

You will receive your schedule in advance and can expect a consistent 40 hours per week, with overtime opportunities frequently available.

Compensation

CSSI uses a post-based pay structure — your hourly rate is determined by the site you are assigned to, not a flat rate. FLEX officers benefit from exposure to a range of sites with competitive rates at each. Overtime is paid at 1.5x for all hours over 40 in a work week.

Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid SC SLED Unarmed Security Officer Registration (or ability to obtain prior to start)
  • Clean criminal background — must pass SLED background check
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation (travel between sites required)
  • Availability to work a rotating schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and perform foot patrols
  • High school diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
  • SC SLED Armed Security Officer Registration (greatly preferred — increases site eligibility and pay potential)
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Prior security, law enforcement, or military experience
  • Healthcare facility security experience
  • Familiarity with access control systems, CCTV, and incident reporting
What CSSI Offers
  • Competitive post-based pay with exposure to a variety of site rates
  • Consistent full-time hours (40 hrs/wk) with overtime opportunities
  • Training through CSSI Academy — CPR, First Aid, situational response, and more
  • Opportunity to earn additional certifications at no cost
  • Variety — work across multiple professional environments instead of one post
  • Growth path into site supervisor, field coordinator, or leadership roles
  • Supportive leadership team that invests in officer development
  • Stable, growing company with 20 years in the industry
