Job description

As Chief Security Officer (CSO) you will lead and define DEME’s global security strategy, protecting our people, assets and data across all domains: physical, information and personnel. This is a high-impact leadership role within the Digital Office Leadership Team, where you’ll contribute to our broader digital and organizational strategy. You’ll work closely with IT, HR, Legal, Operations, and Facilities to build a resilient and forward-looking security culture.

Responsibilities
  • Security Strategy & Leadership – Define and execute a global security strategy aligned with DEME’s corporate goals. Translate this strategy into actionable, multi-year roadmaps and monitor execution. Advise executive management and the board on security risks, trends, and regulatory obligations. Build and lead a high-performing security organization, fostering strong collaboration across IT, Facilities, HR, Legal, and Operations.
  • Physical Security – Manage access control, intrusion detection, and monitoring systems at HQ and global sites. Develop and enforce global physical security standards and policies. Oversee external service provider contracts.
  • Information Security (CISO Role) – Act as DEME’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Operate and continuously improve the Security Operations Center (SOC). Establish secure architecture principles, policies and technical standards. Ensure compliance with GDPR, NIS2, ISO27001 and other relevant regulations. Respond to audits and regulatory inquiries.
  • Personnel & Awareness – Develop and manage a comprehensive security awareness and training program. Promote a strong security culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Security Officer – Serve as the Group Security Officer in accordance with the Belgian Law of 11 December 1998. Lead non-cyber incident response and coordinate crisis management protocols.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in senior security roles, covering both physical and cyber domains.
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading global security programs.
  • Experience managing SOCs, incident response, and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiar with international security standards (e.g., ISO, NIST, CIS).
  • Experience as Security Officer in the sense of the BE Law of 1998.12.11.
  • Strong vendor management and contract negotiation skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CPP, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer).
  • Experience in maritime or industrial environments is a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain Security Clearance (National, EU, NATO) – a mandatory requirement for this role.
