Now Hiring: Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)

Changing Lives Family Care LLC is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and motivated Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) to join our growing behavioral health team. Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)

Location: Hampton Roads, Virginia (Community-Based and Office-Based Services)

Employment Type: Full-Time | Part-Time | Contract

Salary: Competitive, based on experience and credentials.

Position Overview

The CSAC will provide substance use counseling, assessments, relapse prevention, treatment planning, psychoeducation, case management, and recovery support services for adults and adolescents with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Services are delivered using evidence-based, person-centered practices while maintaining compliance with Virginia regulations and Medicaid requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive substance use assessments.
  • Develop and update individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide individual and group substance use counseling.
  • Deliver relapse prevention education and recovery planning.
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) and evidence-based treatment approaches.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, behavioral health providers, probation officers, and community agencies.
  • Assist clients with housing, employment, education, transportation, and community resources.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and Medicaid-compliant clinical documentation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning when appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Participate in supervision, staff meetings, and required training.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current Virginia Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) credential.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license and reliable transportation for community-based services.

Preferred

  • Experience providing Medicaid-funded behavioral health services.
  • Knowledge of ASAM Criteria.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented services, and motivational interviewing.
