The Quote Plant Market Data Platform team supports one of Schwab's most important market data platforms, powering real-time data across trading, web, mobile, and enterprise applications. We are a hands-on engineering team that owns our systems end-to-end, from development and modernization to production support, operational excellence, and automation. As a Software Engineer on the Quote Plant Market Data Platform team, you will help build, enhance, modernize, and support one of Schwab's critical real-time market data platforms, which powers high-volume, low-latency services across equities, options, futures, forex, cryptocurrency, news, and analytics.
This role provides an opportunity to contribute to both the support and modernization of legacy systems while helping drive the platform's long-term technology evolution.
In this role, your application development, analytical thinking, technical troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills will directly support platform resiliency, scalability, and operational excellence. You will work in a collaborative Agile environment with engineers, technical leads, architects, product owners, quality engineers, and infrastructure partners to deliver solutions that strengthen Schwab's trading platforms and client experience. You will also have opportunities to apply automation and emerging AI-enabled capabilities to improve software delivery, observability, troubleshooting, and engineering productivity over time.
What you have
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 6+ years of software development experience
  • Experience developing applications using Java
  • Experience with object-oriented programming and software design principles
  • Experience developing and consuming REST APIs and web services
  • Experience working in Linux or Unix-based environments
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL
  • Experience using source control tools such as Git
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot application and production issues
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively within Agile teams

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, or event-driven platforms
  • Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, or similar platforms
  • Understanding of concurrency, multithreading, networking, memory management, and performance tuning
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience supporting highly available production environments
  • Experience working with or supporting legacy C++ applications and participating in modernization efforts involving Java and distributed systems
  • Experience working in financial services, trading technology, or market data systems
  • Familiarity with real-time market data products, including equities, options, futures, forex, or cryptocurrency data
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Large Language Models, Machine Learning, or Agentic AI systems
  • Experience building, integrating, or supporting AI-enabled applications, services, or engineering tools
  • Familiarity with modern AI platforms and frameworks such as Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI Services, OpenAI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), or similar technologies
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve software engineering productivity, testing, documentation, code quality, or operational support
  • Curiosity and willingness to continuously learn emerging technologies and engineering practices
