Job description

Role: Paralegal - Crypto and Fintech Startups

The Opportunity

We're expanding our team and hiring a paralegal who will work directly with our attorneys, primarily supporting one fast-growing startup client account with additional work across the broader client portfolio.

Northstar Legal is an innovative law firm operating at the intersection of emerging technology and law. We act as fractional general counsel for companies in the crypto/fintech space, advising some of the most talented and ambitious CEOs in crypto. This role offers rapid skill development through hands-on work with cutting-edge legal issues, direct client interaction, and mentorship from experienced practitioners.

You'll be embedded in the day-to-day legal operations of a fast-moving startup client, handling the full range of matters that come with supporting a growing company – contracts, corporate housekeeping, employment docs, compliance documentation, and vendor management. As capacity allows, you'll also support attorneys on matters across our other client accounts.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain and manage contractor and consultant agreements under attorney supervision – primarily marketing, content creator, and service provider agreements – using firm templates, collecting deal terms from client stakeholders, and routing documents through DocuSign for execution.
  • Conduct legal research on regulatory and compliance questions as directed by attorneys, including cite-checking AI-prepared documents for accuracy.
  • Review and organize vendor agreements and order forms received from clients, flagging key terms for attorney review and tracking document status through execution.
  • Support client employment matters by preparing offer letters, contractor amendments, separation documentation, and onboarding materials under attorney direction.
  • Manage document workflows across client matters – including signature tracking, filing executed agreements, maintaining contract repositories, and following up with client teams on outstanding items.
  • Assist with corporate governance tasks such as organizing board consent materials, coordinating equity grant documentation with outside counsel, and maintaining entity records.
  • Compile and organize materials for compliance and diligence processes, including insurance applications, bank onboarding questionnaires, and investor due diligence requests.
  • Help build and maintain legal templates, intake checklists, and internal playbooks that improve efficiency across the client portfolio.
  • Coordinate across Slack channels and project management tools to track incoming requests, maintain task status, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in a legal support role – law firm, in-house, or compliance.
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work proactively, manage multiple client matters simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn rapidly in areas where legal frameworks are still evolving.
  • Clear and responsive communicator – you'll coordinate directly with client team members on document requests, status updates, and follow-ups.
  • Comfort with technology tools and willingness to adopt new platforms (we use Google Workspace, Asana, Slack, and DocuSign).

Preferred

  • Interest in or exposure to blockchain, cryptocurrency, DeFi, or fintech.
  • Familiarity with or interest in learning crypto and blockchain regulatory concepts.
  • Prior exposure to corporate transactions, including financings or M&A.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams (marketing, finance, operations) in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exposure to privacy compliance concepts (GDPR, CCPA) is a plus.
  • Candidates pursuing or planning to attend law school are welcome to apply.

Location & Work Style

This role is remote and open to US-based candidates. NYC-based candidates have access to our office space near Union Square and the advantage of occasional in-person collaboration with our primary client team, which is based in New York. Candidates outside NYC will work fully remotely, with the expectation of occasional travel for in-person collaboration.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role on a full-time basis is $60,000 to $85,000.

Equal Opportunity

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds. We do not discriminate on any legally protected basis.
