Job description

Join the Horizon Farm Credit team as a Crop Insurance Agent and help farmers protect their livelihoods with tailored insurance solutions, ensuring peace of mind throughout every season.

 Overview: Horizon Farm Credit is recruiting for a Crop Insurance Agent to join our crop insurance team. The qualified candidate may work in either the Denton, MD, Georgetown, DE, or Dover, DE branch location. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in agriculture and rural communities.

Join our team as a Crop Insurance Agent, where you'll deliver effective insurance services to ensure the growth and profitability of our association in the crop insurance sector. You'll provide quality, professional service that meets and exceeds customer expectations while maintaining and enhancing Horizon's image and reputation. In this role, you'll promote related services, actively participate in product referrals, business development, and public relations activities, and uphold a favorable Farm Credit image. You'll also share your product knowledge, contribute to the overall expertise of our team, and follow detailed instructions under the close supervision of a manager or mentor.

Areas of Responsibility include:

  • Develops new business by identifying and pursuing prospective customers as well as expanding the relationships of existing customers.
  • Educates customers on crop insurance and associated risk management products & strategies.
  • Develop a personal marketing plan and work closely with others within the region to identify opportunities to promote additional Farm Credit products and services. 
  • Responsible for servicing crop insurance policies in assigned territory, which includes policy changes, collecting production history, acreage reporting, collection of outstanding premiums, and reporting loss claims for policyholders. 
  • Actively participate in educational programs for customers and prospects and engage with Horizon staff to share product knowledge.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Agriculture, Economics, Finance, or related field. 

Experience

  • Generally, two to five years of related experience in sales, insurance, commercial lending, the agriculture industry, or financially related experience. 
  • Possess or obtain a Property & Casualty Insurance license within 90 days of hire. 

Preferred Skills

  • Strong interpersonal relations and communication skills. 
  • Ability to be self-motivated with the ability to work independently. 
  • Acquire skills needed to gather the necessary customer information to facilitate the submission of required documentation for crop insurance products. 
  • Basic to strong analytical skills sufficient to analyze the needs of customers and recommend sound crop insurance and/or revenue protection coverage options. 
  • Agricultural background and/or sufficient knowledge of agricultural and horticultural production technology preferred. 
  • Able to manage challenging customer situations. 
  • Handles duties within the required time expectations, delivering excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to employ diplomacy and tact with customers and prospects while articulating the benefits of Farm Credit. 
  • Ability to spend a significant amount of time meeting with customers, prospects, and referral generators.
  • Knowledge of agriculture is preferred. 
  • Adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment.
  • Ability to travel to/from other branch offices, customer meetings, etc.
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance is required.

The salary range for this position is $51,900 to $91,600, with a midpoint of $70,300. This range reflects current market compensation data and our commitment to competitive, equitable pay. The starting rate is based on the applicant's relevant experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. Most new hires are offered a starting rate between the minimum and midpoint of the range, although placement elsewhere in the range may be appropriate based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
