What is a CRO developer?

A CRO Developer is a specialist who focuses on Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) for websites and digital products. Their main role is to implement and test changes to web pages—using tools like A/B testing and analytics—to increase the percentage of visitors who complete a desired action, such as making a purchase or filling out a form. CRO Developers work closely with marketing and UX teams to identify pain points in the user journey and apply data-driven solutions. They typically possess skills in front-end development, analytics platforms, and user experience principles. By continuously optimizing websites, CRO Developers help businesses achieve better results from their online traffic.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CRO developer?

To thrive as a CRO Developer, you need expertise in web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), A/B testing methodologies, and a solid understanding of conversion rate optimization principles, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with tools like Google Optimize, Optimizely, VWO, Google Analytics, and tag management systems is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with marketing and design teams to drive impactful testing strategies. These skills and qualities are crucial for improving user experience and maximizing website conversion rates, directly impacting business growth.

What are some of the common challenges faced by a CRO developer when optimizing conversion rates across different platforms?

CRO Developers often encounter the challenge of ensuring that conversion optimizations are effective across various devices, browsers, and user segments. Balancing speed of implementation with thorough A/B testing and data analysis can also be demanding, as changes must be both technically sound and data-driven. Additionally, collaborating closely with designers, marketers, and analysts is essential to align technical solutions with broader business goals, which requires strong communication skills and adaptability.

Project Management:

  • Lead capital projects from equipment upgrades to facility expansions.
  • Develop scopes, budgets, schedules, and execution plans.
  • Manage multiple projects while tracking scope, cost, schedule, quality, and risk.
  • Communicate project status and maintain required change-control documentation.
  • Engineering & Technical Leadership
  • Lead project design, cost estimates, technical studies, and feasibility assessments.
  • Develop and review engineering packages, specifications, PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, and drawings.
  • Support equipment procurement and ensure solutions meet manufacturing, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Capital Project Execution:

  • Coordinate engineering consultants, contractors, and equipment vendors.
  • Oversee construction, design reviews, FATs/SATs, commissioning, and qualification.
  • Support system integration, troubleshooting, and start-up activities.
  • Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Ensure projects meet EHS, OSHA, PSM, and site safety requirements.
  • Participate in HAZOPs, risk assessments, and process safety reviews.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and support contractor safety training and field activities.

What We're Looking For:

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in capital project design and execution within pharmaceutical ingredients, specialty chemicals, fine chemicals, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing capital projects from concept through design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of manufacturing unit operations, utility systems, and associated equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and effectively collaborate with internal stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and vendors.
  • Strong project management, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and other applicable industry codes and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment.
  • Experience spanning both project engineering and process engineering.
  • Knowledge of automation and control systems, including PLC, DCS, SCADA, BMS, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with cGMP requirements and FDA regulations.
  • Experience leading complex, multidisciplinary capital projects in a regulated manufacturing environment.
