Unit Notes

Drip Management
  • Titrate drips including:
    • Heparin
    • Ketamine (set rate)
    • Antibiotics
    • Blood products
IV Management
  • Manage frequent IV treatments.
Telemetry/Monitoring
  • Monitor technicians are available to read telemetry strips.
  • Prior telemetry interpretation experience is preferred.
  • Uses [tele brand] telemetry monitors.

Staffing & Support

Charge Nurse
  • Shift begins 1 hour before staff (05:45–06:15).
  • Typically has no patient assignment.
  • Functions as a unit resource.
Nurse Aides
  • CNA ratio: 1:8–12.
  • CNA II staff may assist with:
    • IV removal
    • Foley catheter removal
Respiratory Support
  • Equipment includes:
    • BiPAP
    • CPAP
    • Nasal cannula (NC)

Scheduling & Shifts

  • Shift: 06:45–19:15
  • Self-scheduling available.
  • Can coordinate block scheduling with the unit secretary.
  • Flexibility is appreciated.
Weekend Requirement
  • 4 weekend shifts every 4 weeks.
Holiday Requirement
  • Required to work some holidays.
On-Call/Standby
  • Occasional on-call shifts during low census.
  • Staff are typically called back in as needed.

Floating

RNs may float to:

  • Medical
  • Medical Oncology
  • Telemetry (including cardiac drip patients)

Scrub Policy

  • Navy blue scrubs with the CRMC logo are required.

Orientation

  • 2–3 unit-specific orientation shifts during the first week.
