As a crew boat captain, your job is to operate a ship on a voyage on a sea or ocean. In this role, you may direct everyone else aboard the vessel, plan a route, and help ensure the safety of passengers, cargo, and the ship itself. You may also be responsible for adhering to maritime laws and procedures. This includes the laws of all areas through which your boat passes. Captains often make decisions about the rest of the crew, respond to problems at any time of day, and investigate damage to a ship or the people on board it. Depending on the type of company you work for, you may be responsible for staying in contact with someone onshore. Many details of this job vary based on the type of crew boat you run.
