Job description

RFA Engineering (www.rfamec.com) is an engineering service provider dedicated to delivering our clients with timely engineering support and expertise. We are seeking an experienced candidate to become an integral part of our engineering team. The selected candidates will work with an experienced engineering staff using state-of-the-art engineering tools & processes. This position will operate onsite at our customer's world-class engineering and manufacturing facility located near Milwaukee, WI.

Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer

The senior mechanical design engineer is responsible for creating and developing innovative mechanical design, drawing development, product validation, and quality-driven engineering practices to produce smart, healthy, and sustainable building technologies. They collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other engineers, designers, and stakeholders, to design, analyze, and optimize mechanical solutions that meet project requirements and industry standards. Key responsibilities include using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other tools to create sheet metal components, machined parts, and assemblies and detailed drawings. This position will utilize critical thinking to lead design activities, support quality improvement efforts, and participate in structured problem‑solving using Lean and Six Sigma methods. You will play a key role in ensuring product integrity through testing, validation, structured reviews, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Design of mechanical assemblies, parts, and systems for products such as thermostats, pressure controls, temperature controls, and pneumatic controls.
  • Lead drawing and design reviews focusing on manufacturability, quality, and clarity.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing, and validation teams to optimize designs.
  • Creates parts and assemblies using 3D CAD software (PTC CREO)
  • Creates mechanical drawings, Bill of Materials information, and other documentation for product release.
  • Apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) to ensure accurate and functional documentation.
  • Work in a team-friendly environment innovating new products for our clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, product engineering, or quality engineering.
  • Proficiency in engineering principles including but not limited to structural mechanics and electronics.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD - (CREO preferred).
  • Knowledge of typical engineering standards in drawing practice, dimensioning and tolerancing, drawing symbols, welding practice, etc.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated through work experience or hobbies
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment

Desired Attributes

  • Experience in 3-D Modeling Software (Creo, Solidworks, NX) preferred
  • Strong understanding of GD&T
  • Experience with parts data management systems such as Windchill PLM and SAP ERP (BOMs, part structures, change management).
  • Experience in manufacturing environments, including collaboration with suppliers and production teams.
  • Ability to address quality issues, determine root cause and drive to a corrective action
