Job description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a SBL Credit Analyst II to join our team! This position will be responsible for financial analysis and review of SBA program eligibility requirements on assigned loan submissions. Utilizing designated lending authority, will provide complete and accurate credit memos with justified recommendations to management for final credit decision.

As part of this role you will:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Bank Loan Policy
  • Basic knowledge of SBA SOP and eligibility requirements
  • Will need to stay up to date with economy related knowledge.
  • Responsible for being compliant with all regulations and compliance requirements pertaining to job function.
  • Run and review all relevant third-party reports and search for available data on public websites as necessary to support the loan presentation including Credit Reports, CLEAR Reports, etc.
  • Financial collections
  • Covenant tracking
  • Supports the Servicing Team with all Credit Administration needs.
  • Prepares credit memos.
  • Complete tax verifications of sellers and borrowers
  • Complete assigned re-approval loan presentations and change memos.
  • Complete Adverse Action requirements
  • Attends National Markets Committee to provide commentary as needed in support of loan requests.
  • Review original documents to understand the nature of loan requests.
  • Spread financial statements/tax returns and complete preliminary analysis of repayment capacity.
  • Generate and communicate to customers the credit needs list within approved service level obligations.
  • Complete credit memos with justified and accurate narratives/information for final review by management while meeting SBA requirements for the small loan credit memo.
  • Conduct communication with customers to facilitate the gathering and synthesis of all relevant and necessary information.
  • Effectively manage time and priorities to meet deadlines, dealing with multiple loan requests simultaneously in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Achieve and maintain base level of knowledge of commercial banking regulations, financial and cash flow analysis, and loan structuring.
  • Complete internal loan reviews
  • Recommend loan structures, working with lenders.
  • Determine risk rating.
  • Actively participate in loan committee.
  • Role will have designated lending approval authority.
  • Maintain a superior level of customer service with both external and internal customer and favorably represent the Bank to such customers.
  • Carry out such other duties as may be assigned or requested.

To be successful in this position, we require the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or relevant field required.
  • 3+ years related work experience required (7+ years preferred).
  • Flexibility and adaptability/collaboration skills.
  • Good listening skills and coachability.
  • An ability to problem-solve and think proactively.
  • Excellent technical and computing skills, including proficiency in the following:
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Sageworks Analysis experienced desired.
  • Strong Critical thinking, problem solving, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple loan submissions/tasks in various stages simultaneously.

The following would be a plus:

  • Credit Risk Certifications, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Commercial Investment, or other lending/credit certification.
  • Lending Authority experience.
