Job description

Ready to work at the intersection of content policy, risk operations, and AI innovation? Amazon's Books Risk and Policy team is looking for a Risk and Policy Program Manager, who thrives in fast-moving environments and wants to help shape how AI-powered risk tools come to life. If you're energized by meaningful problems, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to protect the integrity of content that reaches millions of readers, this role is for you.
In Books, authors are at the heart of what we do. It is that simple. We offer a team environment that thrives on innovation and excellence, and our staff is talented and passionate about creating an exceptional customer experience. Our team works backwards from customers, solves problems, prevents risk, and is at the forefront of innovation.
As a Risk and Policy Program Manager on the Books Risk and Policy team, you will support and execute launch readiness efforts for Policy and large language model (LLM) initiatives that directly support Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) risk operations. You will translate complex initiatives into clear, actionable documentation that guides teams through high-stakes launches and changes. You will contribute to scalable processes that mitigate risk while flexing across the broader risk vertical as business needs evolve.
This role sits within the Training, Launch, Content (TLC) organization and works at the crossroads of policy, technology, and operations. You will partner with Product Managers, Policy SMEs, Science, ML engineers, automation teams, and Ops workflow leads to translate technical and policy requirements into clear, operational guidance. Your growing business acumen will support timely decisions in ambiguous situations, while your data-driven approach ensures content and process effectiveness through metrics and direct feedback.
Key job responsibilities
• Support the definition of reviewer use cases and processes for new products, tools, policies, or business and risk launches
• Drive content projects through their entire lifecycle
• Develop clear, concise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Support defect reduction and risk mitigation strategies
• Use data analysis to make content and process decisions
• Execute strategies to improve content and process accuracy, quality, and usability
• Build relationships with cross-functional stakeholders
• Support the Sr. Program Manager with program-related responsibilities
• Communicate effectively to Manager and Director-level stakeholders
A day in the life
Your day might start with a review of a launch readiness checklist for an upcoming LLM policy update, followed by a cross-functional sync with Product Managers, ML engineers and ops leads to align on rollout timelines. In the afternoon, you might draft or refine an SOP for a new enforcement process using AI tools to accelerate documentation, then close out by pulling metrics to assess the impact of a recently launched program. No two days look exactly the same, but every day, you will see the direct connection between your work and the integrity of the Amazon Books store.
About the team
The Books Risk and Policy team is a high-performing, mission-driven group that sits at the intersection of content policy, risk operations, and AI innovation. We protect the integrity of the Amazon Books store by building the readiness frameworks, enforcement processes, and governance structures that keep KDP risk operations running at their best. We are a collaborative, empowering team that values autonomy, clear thinking, and meaningful work. Our team is based primarily in Charleston, SC and Seattle, WA, and we are proud to work on problems that directly impact authors, publishers, and readers around the world.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of program or project management experience
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

- Experience managing competing priorities across a wide range of stakeholders
