BMW Automotive Accounting Comptroller - Full-Time
Passport BMW one of the DC area's largest dealerships with 35 years of history.
Join a high-performing automotive dealership and lead our accounting operations. We're seeking an experienced Automotive Accounting Controller to oversee financial reporting, internal controls, cash management, and the daily functions of a busy retail automotive environment. This role is critical to the dealership's financial health, accuracy, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting functions: GL, AP/AR, payroll, schedules, and reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and manufacturer requirements
  • Manage month-end and year-end close, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Monitor cash flow, banking relationships, and liquidity needs
  • Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard dealership assets and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Review schedules, investigate unusual entries, and ensure proper reconciliations (bank, reserve, factory payable, floorplan)
  • Ensure all manufacturer accounts (warranty, rebates, co-op, interest credits) are accurate and current
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, providing required documentation and addressing findings
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to senior management to support strategic decisions
  • Supervise, train, and develop accounting staff; promote a culture of accuracy and accountability
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3+ years experience as an Automotive Controller or Assistant Controller in a dealership environment
  • Strong understanding of dealership financial statements, internal controls, and compliance standards
  • EXCEL proficiency is of the HIGHEST PRIORITY.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to lead a team and collaborate across departments
  • Deep knowledge of inventory accounting, cost accounting, and revenue recognition in automotive retail
