Position Announcement
The Department of English is seeking to hire part-time (adjunct) instructors to teach first-year writing courses (English 1005, 1010, and 2010) in the classroom and online.
Summary of Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be able to: implement program goals as guided by common assignment sequences, texts, and objectives; prepare effective course plans; establish a supportive classroom environment; evaluate student learning using multiple means of assessment; support a student-centered approach to education; and maintain and submit detailed student grade records. We are also interested in applicants with a willingness to discuss and/or use AI in an ethical and responsible manner with students. Applicants must be Utah residents at the time of hire.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree or higher in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Creative Writing, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of two years' experience teaching composition courses at the college level.
  • Currently has or will have Utah residency by time of hire.
  • Work is performed in a classroom environment using the Instructure Canvas learning management system.

  • Knowledge of the subject area and engagement with pedagogical principles.
  • Experience teaching first-year college writing.
  • Skill in instructional strategies, techniques, and relevant technologies.
