Job description

JOB SUMMARY

CSG Consultants, Inc. (CSG) is currently considering candidates in the Southern California region for a CEQA Project Manager. We are seeking individuals with experience in preparing and managing environmental documentation and CEQA processes. The ideal candidate has string management skills, involving a variety of project types, marketing and business development experience, and has partnered/collaborated with team members. The candidate is expected to be well versed in the practice of CEQA documentation, working with agency clients and has excellent writing and communications skills. This is a full-time, hybrid position in the Planning Services Group and specifically within Environmental Planning Practice.

This position involves managing projects, responsible for a variety of CEQA compliance assignments, and working with CSG team members and subconsultants in developing CEQA documentation to clients throughout California. The position includes the ability to explore and grow new opportunities through business development and proposal assignments. The position entails exciting diversity in terms of the type of projects and communities that CSG is working with throughout California.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as a Project Manager on projects and proposal pursuits.
  • Preparation of environmental documentation for various types of development, infrastructure, and policy projects.
  • Hands on manager in preparing categorical exemptions, initial studies/mitigated negative declarations, EIR's, related CEQA compliance studies and special studies in accordance with CEQA and sometimes NEPA.
  • Responsible for confirming the requirements of CEQA are met by completing analysis and documentation within specific guidelines.
  • Ensure client satisfaction, serving in the role of client contact for CEQA deliverables.
  • Focus on project success by creating and committing to appropriate schedules, scopes, and budget.
  • Seek team and client success by managing the existing workload, anticipating future workload and appropriately prioritizing deadlines.
  • Incorporate sub-consultant reports and personal research and knowledge into appropriate sections of environmental documents.
  • Perform a wide range of duties to help fulfill the environmental services group's growth and development. Actively contribute to roles on proposals, administrative and production assignments.
  • Active involvement in business development activities, including proposals, qualifications, conferences, and focused interactions with existing and potential clients.
  • Considered a key resource and contributor to the annual Environmental Planning Business Plan.
  • Maintain personal and team excellence by actively seeking feedback, encouraging creativity and implementing innovative ideas.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, geography, planning or related field (or in process).
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience with a government agency or firm in a field related to environmental analysis and reporting.
  • Familiar with CEQA and active roles in coordination and management of the various levels of study.
  • Understanding of the principles and practices of the environmental consulting industry, CEQA and applicable processing requirements.
  • Have exposure in working as a key project manager on environmental review/analysis assignments, working with clients and interdisciplinary teams and delivering quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Technical competence and understanding of all 20 topical areas of Appendix G of the CEQA Guidelines and knowledge and awareness of the State CEQA Guidelines, guidance materials available at OPR and relevant court cases that have implications for the practice of CEQA throughout California.
  • Background and understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Creative Cloud a plus.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to make creative and solution-oriented recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communications skills.
  • Ability to multi-task on assignments and to be flexible with the range of assignments.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated capabilities with written and verbal business English, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class "C" California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to client sites, project locations and business development related activities.
  • Work productively independently or in a team environment.
  • Occasional overtime work is required throughout the year.
  • Regularly requires working in sitting position with computer for extended periods.
  • Require walking, bending, and sitting.
  • May require lifting up to 10 pounds.
